If you want to move this to the WSOP thread, I understand, but I feel like this deserves it's own thread.

This seems to have been confirmed by Poker News

Apparently, he did end up ITM from this strategy. I feel like this should be a much bigger story and cannot imagine how so many people are reacting positively to this. I'm sure the people who bubbled could have used the money, as well. One of the most blatant cases of collusion ever, IMO, and certainly the most prominent in a major event. Would like to see WSOP take some action on this.

Edit: If a mod could please remove the word final from the title.. Obviously not related to a FT..

I think you’re making a bigger deal out of this than it was. If some random dude writes me a letter at my table asking me to soft play his BB, I’m not guilty of collusion. Likewise, asking someone to go easy on you isn’t collusion. Planning and agreeing with someone else to engage in soft play would count as collusion.

This is a non-story.

No. Is Hellmuth guilty of collusion every time he’s in a hand and says to villain “I’ll take this one, you take the next one”? It’s just talk.

He also literally got jammed on in the BB anyway. The dude might be a bit of a goober but thats reallly the entire story

That being said, better safe than sorry and not even give the optics of possible collusion so it wasn’t a bright idea.

I recall punishments doled out for doing just this in online poker tournaments. Asking in chat for slower play or for everyone to fold.

the entire table should have agreed to limp and check it down when they saw this.

it was dumb for wsop to stop play 10 players away from the bubble. the players basically got to cheat on the test by looking at the chip counts and seeing exactly where they stood relative to the other short stacks.

But he's asking you to collude.

Correct. And you say no. So no collusion took place. If someone asked me to rob a bank and I say no, I’m not guilty of robbing a bank. The other guy might be guilty of attempted conspiracy to rob a bank so I say this guy is guilty of attempted conspiracy to collude.

I was prepared to say non-story too…until I saw the letter.

It was a 3 paragraph typed letter (I thought he wrote “plz fold my big blind” on a napkin or something. The floor should have been called and he should have been given a penalty. The letter went into detail about how he could really use the money to pay for an American university and also towards a honeymoon with his wife. That’s too much imo.

That said no poker player should ever abide to that, especially in a 10k. Costing themselves potential money….

But at the end of the day nothing happened so oh well…

Right. And I didn't say the WSOP should penalize the table. I said (or meant) they should penalize this 1 guy. So many replies to that tweet, and even Poker News seems to be celebrating this, like it's the feel good story of the year. Cheering on 1 guy potentially being saved, at the expense of 1500 others, is not heroic.

That was my initial impression, as well, but found out here and later confirmed it was not true.

There was a different guy who was all in for less than 1 BB who got a walk. That case seems way more likely to have been actual collusion

The only way to fight attempted collusion by one person is with actually collusion with seven others?

Yeah probably not the best time to cater to a new player (is it?) on the bubble of the 10k Main event with 12 million dollars to first.

You can’t do anything after the fact tho.
