Norman Chad has some long term issues from his battle with COVID-19 and won’t be doing commentary for the 2020 WSOP broadcast on ESPN this Sunday.

I know some people aren’t big fans of these commentators but I always appreciated their humor. I’m a bit skeptical of how good it will be to have Lon but no Chad.

Hope Norm recovers, I always liked him on the broadcasts. Humor goes a long way on poker shows because of how much time is spent watching players do nothing / shuffle chips.

Maybe ESPN will give Schulman a chance - his shtick might be too “adult” for them but I think Ali/Nick are one of the best commentating duos in the world, regardless of sport

Kerstetter is pretty funny and knows poker a lot better than Norm. She's also worked with Lon a lot. So it should be pretty good.

I'm in perhaps the smallest minority of all: I still really enjoy Lon & Norm, what with their banter in the booth and the Dad-joke humor... but really wish they had been retired years ago in favor of the Nejad/Schulman tandem.

Sort of reminds me of having a favorite athlete whose best years are now far behind. I still will buy tickets to see them play, or make it a point to tune in to watch, but for the betterment of the team, I wish they would just retire already.

Is this a joke? In the limited sample I have seen of her, she comes off as like she barely knows that two pair > pair

Jamie seems like a great person and a joy to be around, but her commentary is pretty meh I have never found it intriguing or funny.

My favorite NBA team (Warriors) pushed one of its long-time commentators (Jim Barnett) to radio before last season in favor of a younger, fresher alternative.

I imagine that Jamie would be offended if someone suggested that she's only being put in this position because she's young and female, but you are also fooling yourself if you don't think shallow surface-level traits like that matter in TV. FWIW she seems passionate about poker and has a good personality.

For me, Lon and Norm are synonymous with the WSOP and I hope Norm can get better, but change is inevitable at some point.

Hearing Norm talk gives me nostalgia, same thing with Gabe Kaplan.

Increase your sample size. Her podcast makes it clear she is knowledgeable.

No, not at all. It’s just going to be odd to not have their banter. Like them or not, they have chemistry and I’m not sure how it will go with a replacement.

Norm's twitter for the past week makes no mention of being saddled with COVID, has some short video embeds, and would seem to indicate he's doing at the least okay.

I'm also in the camp that would really miss Lon and Norm doing the final table. But if the pair couldn't, I'd most like the Ali/Nick S team as replacement.
