I shall attempt to explain why LIVE will always > ONLINE. Will try to keep concise.


Financial POV

From a financial perspective obviously, there is little difference, save for the increasing probability of RTA - which for the sake of the argument I'll not discuss here except to mention it's obv a HUGE problem.

The only relevant financial element I can think of is game selection: game selection live vs online is almost always incomparably better. Purely from a bb/100 POV, you will not be able to compete w/ a live pro who game selects and has soft skills - regardless of the skill difference between the two of you.


Purity/ Feel POV
Obviously software tools fundamentally modify how the game is played:

• memory (mental and/or physical note-taking that you'd need in live) is effectively replaced by software, which has 100% data accuracy; this is a small but significant skill of poker that is non-existent in online, making the game less

• soft skill element (live reads) almost entirely removed: when you play live you can _easily_ (depending on your psych profiling skills) mentally assess,
  tag and exploit players based on a bunch of imperfect yet signif info (how they look, talk, behave etc); another element that online removes, again making the game less

Cheating/ collusion is much easier/ common online than it is live (in a casino/ card room setting).

Also having physical chips & cards in your hands >>> playing from a laptop (lol).


For all these reasons, LIVE will always > ONLINE.

Other than that, the whole topic is mostly a personal preference thing anyway. A lot of online players have zero desire to play live, for various reasons.

Personally, in the years where poker was my main source of income I never played live outside WSOP time and the 1 or 2 EPT stops our group went to each year. These days I play much more live than online because I treat it as a social activity that online poker certainly isn't.

Other than that, combining live poker with a regular family live is basically impossible. Online poker can always be a 9 to 5 if you want it to be that.

Live isn't everywhere and anytime, online is. Gravitating towards training with virtual gto opponent, for performing well live. But as you said op, trying to adjust to the players when getting there. Maybe one of the goals is to earn some respect, is possible live.

And remember folks - online is not rigged, and there is no risk of losing the money online…

just incase people didn't know cheating also occurs live. Maybe not RTA but what about angling and collusion and hiding chips. You thought i had 1200 but looks like i had another 500 dollar chip that i was covering with my left hand. Plus live is slow af. I personally have no desire to have to sit there for 5 minutes while some guy stares at me trying to get a read. Plus live you have to deal with jack asses. No Martin Kabrhel types online. Well probably are but online has a mute option live doesn't Oh and no incompetent dealers online

This is common knowledge. Live player chads just pound yayo and high end liquor while smashing oil princes night after night while online virgins are grinding out 3bb/100 making minimum wage slaves look like Bezos. Even online killers like Linus go play Triton cus it's lolez.

cheating absolutely occurs live. but there's way more cheating online.
as for people tanking and live being a lot slower- can't argue with you there.

Live is better than online because you get to drink free beer. Well, technically you tip the waitress but she will give you the meanest stink eye if you don't and you can forget about getting drinks from her ever again

Well that's one big plus for live. Full of people who think the point is to get free beer, The downside is you have.to put up with belligerent drunks .
