Erm what? Any poker player (or tbh anyone) who doesn't do exactly the same in her shoes is a moron. That show was so stupid. It relied on the stupidity of people on it for it to work at all.

It's not stupid. It's basically an analogy of the prisoner's dilemma.

what it actually relies on is the Prisoner's Dilemma which is a pretty important cornerstone of game theory.

This stature? What? Its a load of boring old drivel, with questions usually based on 9th century art and telescopes that look out into the night sky, accompanied by a load of boring ponces who wear knitted cardigans, and say a good night blow out is a ribena and stimulation of the intellectual kind.

If you want questions on Eastenders you can watch the first 5 minutes of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Be sure to turn it off quickly though, gets tough once they reach the £1000 mark.

Yes thats EXACTLY my point. Stealing is a dominant strategy, ergo it should always be done. This means that the TV show couldn't exist if not for dumb people as everyone would just always steal and no one would ever win money. Imagine if only people from 2+2 played that game? It wouldn't work.

that doesn't work because:

- PD analogy - cooperation = best reward
- game show - cooperation = HALF reward, whereas betrayal gives FULL reward

/fail

In the prisoner's dilemma, cooperation is not the best reward. The best is for you to defect while the other prisoner tries to cooperate with you.

Cliffs
[ ] NVGtards can discuss game theory intelligently ITT

To all you smartasses talking about prisoners dilemma, yes this is classic PD, but not the one you were introduced too in your first year university economics course, but more on that in a second.

Yes, the game is easily solved by dominance but the Pareto solution is cooperation by both parties, it yields the greatest total utility to both players. In a Prisoners Dilemma game with no communication of ANY sort and where the payoffs are actual UTILITY (not $$) the clear cut answer is defect.

Now what is different with this game? Firstly the payoffs are all monetary values, not utility. If a millionaire was playing that game against someone living in a trailer park they may actually rank their preferred results Split > Lose to a steal > Steal successfully > Both Steal. If this is a viable rendition of ANYONE's utility values then this game is never "solved" since we only have monetary payoffs and not actual valuations from players.

Additionally because communication is clearly not only allowed, but encouraged, in this game it is, again, completely different than what some of the above posters learned in high school. Depending on what mechanisms are available and what information one is able to acquire the game changes entirely; especially if we're talking about a live poker player who should not only be well versed in Game Theory, but also able to read people to some extent.

And lastly this is not a game with closed results, usually in PD there is no audience, if you think the players knowledge that people will watch this show doesn't play a roll you're a damn fool, and for 3250.50 pounds it might be +EV for alot of people to play Split depending on what sort of reputation they want.

Having played this game with communication before in a somewhat controlled study it was actually lol obvious what the result would be before they revealed, i was unsure of Liv's move, but if she didn't have a justified belief that he would Split she might have wanted some practice before going on the show (if you don't see the multiple tells do this experiment with several friends, if you don't figure it out then stick to NVG and stay away from MSNL ).

Basically NVGtards stick to what you're good at, trolling, but please don't use actual intelligent discussion, it makes those of us who actually think look bad.

For some reason educating NVG seems like the logical way to pass the time...I mean I accomplish about the same amount of work when i sleep, except when i sleep i actually feel rejuvenated, whereas when i talk to NVG i lose faith in humanity and no one emerges any smarter.
