Out of curiosity, what would be considered the first wave? Bear in mind, we're not talking about European poker players in general (at the very least, Thor Hansen would have a thing or two to say about that) but rather the hyper-aggro archetype that Lex fancies himself as.
I would like to think 2004-06 when super-aggro scandis where making huge bank in Prima, Laddy and ongame. Oh those swedes from linköping.
[ ] Antonio: "Hey, I'd like to take you out for dinner"
[ ] Lex: "Sure, but you need to invite my 4 friends or else you are a douche"
you're the douche for completely mis-representing what lex said. or you just didn't understand what he said.
how are so many people ITT ignoring the important fact that he already had plans for the evening with his friends?

a) maybe Lex didn't see Antonio as someone at the pinnacle of his profession, but instead as a poker celebrity
b) maybe his friends would have been fine with it, but he actually just wanted to spend time with his real friends?
So Antonio basically said, "Bro, Im inviting you to dinner. And youre gonna turn ME down?" Obviously implying that Lex should ditch his friends and would be crazy not to.
Welp, if ANY celebrity/poker player/whatever pulled that **** on me, my reaction would be exactly the same as Lex's....

"Go **** yourself."
Probably for the best since if you, like Lex, take his friendly ribbing seriously, you'd be a ****ing bore at dinner anyway.
One of the worst things I've seen Esfandiari do was how he treated Annette Oberstad at the PAD table. He joked about "oh you're going to fold to a little girl?" and showed her no respect. It was embarrassing how out of line he was.
I met Antonio twice at Shooting Stars Bay 101. I asked him a few questions about the tourny, he was very nice and answered them. Asked if I play for a living (which I do). We talked a few minutes about cash games the second time. My experience with Antonio was nothing short of enjoyable.

This one is even worse:
Someone asks Tom Dwan how many times he's had sex:
"So durrrr come clean, what is it?"
Tom responds, "It's over zero"
Then everyone at the table laughs, and Antonio says "So we know you're not a virgin, that's good to know" and the rest of the table bursts out into yet more laughter, adding to Tom Dwan's embarrassment. I just think that was a real ****ish move by Antonio, almost playground school bullying mentality. Good to see that he hasn't grown up since elementary school.
He got what he deserved in the hand that followed, when Dwan absolutely owned his soul and took all his money. Antonio played the hand so shockingly bad, especially on the river, that I'm absolutely amazed there are people out there that look up to him as a professional poker player.
Great video. I enjoyed Antonio's really obvious Hollywooding on the river before he shoved with the worst hand.
I've seen a bunch of PAD episodes. I've never seen Dwan ever get out line with anyone, not even once. Not even after horrific bad beats.
On a separate note, one thing I liked about the 2012 OneDrop is that they showed the starting hands everyone was getting in table form. Antonio had just incredible run-good. Helmuth made the money getting dealt rags the whole tournament.

I think Antonio handled that 1-outer beat pretty well actually. Not many could say the same. Can you imagine Phil Helmuth in that same spot? My god his outburst would've hit the richter scale monitors! Also, Dwan couldn't give two chits about the ribbing over his "sex count", I don't think he was embarrassed in the least.
As I listened to Lex’s first interaction with Antonio I can see where their wires may have crossed.
Antonio invited Lex to dinner and Lex wanted to bring along four other friends.
By Antonio inviting Lex it’s implied that he’s picking up the check. And by Lex inviting 4 of his friends - Antonio could have thought that Lex wanted him to pay for everyone.
What Lex could have said was “I really appreciate the invite but I’ve already got plans with some friends. I’m not going to blow them off. If I can bring them along great, if not maybe we can grab dinner tomorrow night?”
There’s always two sides to a story.
That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Antonio big times people all the time.
I’m sure there are times when Antonio is a jerk and other times he’s cool but isn’t that true with just about everyone?
You are spot on. There is a good way to communicate and a bad way. If Lex had stated as you said, I'm sure Antonio would have been either cool with it or rescheduled. Lex was the bigger douche in that instance.
They were both kinda douchey but lex is hilarious so he wins in my book. I liked joey's face when lex told the story, it looked like he was thinking 'whoa calm down bro'

This is such bull****. The whole table was ragging on Tom, so what? And if hitting a 1-outer is owning someone's soul. then yeah, I guess he did.
Can't we all just agree that they both have douche tendacies and move along with our lives?
No, this is NVG where we must pick a side, dig in, then beat the proverbial dead horse until ad hominem attacks dominate the thread.

Reason: But yeah, I agree. I'd say almost everyone has exhibited douche tendencies at some point.
