I wouldn't go so far as to say they deserved to get ripped off, and I hope they somehow get their money back (although I don't see how that's possible at this point), but for many, the first person they should point a finger at is looking at them in the mirror every morning.

But again, I don't know OP's situation; perhaps he was unaware of what had happened there.

This. I even agree with him, but it doesn't make his posts any more readable.

This is what I wrote after another appearance of Phil Hellmuth in the 2p2 Pokercast.

Quote:
Long time listener, I enjoy it. Tho I already noticed that you back down easily when your guest is high profile, I never took the time to write something about it but seriously I can't help myself on this one.

This Hellmuth interview is a complete joke.
So you let him promote himself during one hour and at the end when you take your shot to talk about UB you start your question by something around the line "... well maybe you don't want to talk too much about it". Seriously ?
Who cares about what he wants, this guys is a scumbag.

How can he sleep at night when his company outright cheated its customers and he did nothing but cashing his check ?
Did he ever answer to the allegations that he was more than a sponsored pro but also a UB shareholder ?
Did he ever answer to the allegations that he received payments from his shares after BF whereas UB players couldn't cash out their money ?

Not saying the last two points are true but has he ever answered to those ?Well I guess it's a bit difficult when no one dares to ask him anything about his shadiness.

The fact that mainstream media keep praising him without saying anything about his past is one thing (that Duke and him are superstars says a lot about US journalism) but that a poker show like yours chooses not to is baffling me.
This guy should have been ostracized from the poker community and yet he is still a superstar.
Well at least each time he wants to promote himself on a poker show he should be called out about what he did again and again no matter how many years have passed.

Disclaimer: I never uploaded money on UB, I'm not from USA (so didn't get hit by BF) nor I'm a broke hater.
I'm just sick to see that the so called poker community can't clean out its own mess and deal correctly with its [insert: cheater/thief/shill from one or the other]
It's one thing to ask for rights towards poker but let's face that it will always have a bad reputation and therefore poker should be cleaner than any other field so as to be accepted and respected.

It's hard to compete in a game that changes as much as poker does for as long as he has without being an elite level player.
So you spend countless hours calling out Lock pros (which is a very good thing to do) while praising Hellmuth qualities... Are you for real ?
No one answered me at the time, maybe some 2p2 rep could shed a light on what the 2p2 policy is towards high profile players because it seems all the shadiness of those people are easily swept under the carpet as long as they keep coming back (or in hope they will) in the Pokercast show.

Another recent example is Phil Ivey who for the 1st time did accept an interview on the Pokercast, because let's face it, he has to promote his Ivey League business and not a peep about what went down with FTP (did he borrow money from FTP as apparently a lot of shareholder/pro did ? If yes, has he paid that back ? What about his lawsuit ? He told he would explain himself but never did, and so on)...

Hi Dead:

As the owner of 2+2 I probably qualify as a representative.

As for the 2+2 PokerCast, we want Mike and Adam to be as independent of 2+2 ownership as possible since they know a whole lot more about how to create a great PokerCast than someone like myself. So to answer your question, there is no 2+2 policy towards high profile players that appear on the 2+2 PokerCast. As to who appears and what questions are asked, it's up to Mike and Adam.

Best wishes,
Mason

OP has a point; PH doesn't get a free pass to dodge answering why he was the biggest shill for another bunch of crooks.

It's not relative; even if you could successfully argue he was only hooked up with the 2nd worst & not the worst doesn't mean everything's cool.

Ya dig..?

.
Nope I didn't say anything like that. I said that since we don't know how much he knew it's ridiculous to claim he's worse than people who we know stole money from the poker community. If you disagree that's your opinion but I would still call it a ridiculous opinion.

If you want to know why PH was promoting a bunch of crooks you don't need to talk to PH. Anyone can tell you. You see they paid him money for him to promote a poker site. So, he promoted the poker site. All clear now?

Do you think Michael Jordan knows how Nike or Hanes run their business? Do you think he cares? He agrees to slap his name on products and be in commercials for money. That's all. If the companies turn out to be corrupt, thieving bastards then oh well. Not his fault or his problem except to the extent that it hurts his own image.

Do you think Michael Jordan considers the owners of Nike or Hanes his close friends? Would he continue to endorse their products because of this friendship even if it became clear they were stealing from customers?

Hellmuth gets a pass on being a UB sponsored player pre-superusers. I'll even give him a pass on his saying not to worry about NioNio, because we'll just roll with the idea that he was lied to and passed on the lies because he believed them.

Once the superuser **** blew up, PH would have to be literally ******ed to not realize how bad it was, and what did he do? Reupped with UB. So **** him, and he absolutely should be called out on it, just like any Lock pro who encouraged people to deposit into a site they knew wasn't paying out should.

The only thing that is clear is that you don't understand the true relationship and continue to propagate nonsense.

He founded the site, he helped build the site, he owned the site. All his wealth and payouts stemmed from that ownership relationship. AFAIK, Michael Jordan did not found Nike or have a significant ownership interest.

If I had a lot of money on UB I would look into filing a lawsuit against Phil and other pros who were paid with the player's money. UB was supposed to be paying their pros with their profits, but they ended up using the player's money to pay the pros. So even if the pros didn't know anything about the illegal activities of the owners of the site, they still were paid with money that belonged to someone else and they should not be allowed to keep the money. Phil basically stole money from the players and even if he did it without realizing it, he should still give the money that back to people who is belonged to. I can't believe there has not been an attempt by the players to get some money back from people like Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke, Joe Sebok, Prahlad Friedman and others who profited from promoting a scam site.

Great post, Otatop, agree all the way through. It sickens me the way Helmuth has skated free of this and continues to be treated as something other than the piece of scum he is. The losses from the UB scandal were massive and I would not be surprised if it drove some of the victims (like Brad Booth) were driven to contemplating suicide. Helmuth smirked his way through it all as though he had nothing to do with it when in fact he was in it up to his eyeballs. In my view, his continuing to promote UB after the **** hit the fan is far worse than anything the Lock pros ever did.

+1...Side Fact- Did you know Phil Hellmuth's net worth was about 100 Million $'s after Ultimate Bet went public on the London Stock Exchange. The cheating started around 2003, they went public around 2005.

Without the cheating they would of never been able to take the company to the London Stock Exchange.
