What is their promotion/rake schedule
01-15-2017 , 01:02 PM
It's a dollar for a daily club membership rate, 9 dollars a hour for a "chair rental". They are giving first time players 3 free hours during the month of January.

Hi all

I'm looking to play some higher stakes poker in Austin after work. NLH or PLO are both fun. I'm open to PM if you know of any good games.

I live about 30 min from alamo card house and i think im finally going to give it a try. I really wish they had 2-5 though. Anyone that plays there is the game at least a decent size 1-2? Texas card room is a little further for me but if ach 1-2 is not worth it id rather drive further for a little bigger game.

1-2 is a 500 max with unlimited straddles at ACH, so it plays a little bigger than your typical 1-2. They could definitely get a 2-5 going most nights, but they don't really try to get one started, not sure why. I have heard of it running on the weekends though.

The PLO game is super juicy if you like Omaha.

Good luck!

1/2 and 1/3 players are a strange breed

I ran a 1/2 game for 3 years - every day for 3 years straight - however we played 1/3 on wednesday - min buy in was 500....but the game got so strong that EVERYONE bought in for 5k....lol

Often they would straddle $25 in the BB and $50 button straddles were not uncommon....after watching this for a few weeks - I suggested we move the stakes to 2/5...their response was that they couldn't afford that

I have heard a lot of rumors lately that a new card house with the same business model is opening in North Austin soon - can anyone confirm?

I know that Texas Card House has been looking to open a north location for a long time but they've had a hard time finding willing landlords.

Word through the grapevine is that some investors have purchased property in North Austin and will be opening at least one room...

Competition is great - $9 per hr - plus daily fee plus monthly fee and sometimes a VIP pass adds up really quick to make the poker "we" play sometimes more than rake would be.

competition will sort out the market and make for competition for your hard earned dollars and bring them into a "smart choice" for those of us that love the game.

Poker Rooms of Texas in Plano update: my new favorite place to play!

Beats driving to Winstar to find a cash game that you are not getting racked to death. The dealers seem to all have prior casino experience/training so good pace of game with correct procedures.

2 tables of 1/2 NL every night I have gone.

Saturday 7:30 PM tournament: $50 buy-in, $10k starting stack, 25/50 starting blinds, 20 minute levels.

Saturday 9:00 PM: 1/2 Pot Limit Omaha. Last weekend the table played strong with 10 to 8 players all the way to closing. With no rake all the chips stayed on the table so stacks kept growing and shifting.

Anyone know the min/max buy ins for the $1/$2 and $2/$5 NL at Texas Card Room in Austin? I'm in town this week and planning to go play tonight.

I ended up playing for about 6 hours at Texas Card Room two nights ago. I thought it was a well-run place. I called ahead to secure a spot right when games opened up. Daily membership is $10 and then they hold your credit card to charge you $9/hour when you cash out. Pizza, snacks & drinks are included for everyone. It looked like there were cameras + an armed security guard was there. They ran 4 cash game tables (all $1/$2 NL) plus a $60 tourney. 1st place for the tourney was $2600. The cash games were loose & juicy. Since no rake got dropped, all the money stayed on the table. Within a few hours, most players were pretty deep. The blinds were basically irrelevant, the game played more like a $2/$5 game since most players had $800-$1000 in front of them. Dealers were surprisingly solid. All in all, a solid place to play. Rumor has it that a 2nd location is opening soon.

I enjoyed playing with you and sorry for that ugly suckout with AQ suited where I hit the wheel on the river. I actually thought I was quite possibly ahead when I shoved and knew you were calling as there was no fold equity at that point. It was really more of a "I'm tilted from a few coolers so let me blow this last $200 before rebuying" decision - what can I say other than it was a poor play with a lucky result.

Anyway you were on the 'main' table which actually played small compared to most nights but agree with your overall assessments - place is safe, well-run, friendly, juicy and the dealers are excellent.

Ah yes, I remember you. You got me on that AQ hand. Suckouts were going around that night. I had my share too! Fun playing with you & all the guys. A few guys mentioned that the game played smaller than normal. I'm sure my tighter style didn't help the juiciness of the game. Good luck!

Does that "grinder" guy with the beard always run like God??? Or just that night?
02-25-2017 , 10:36 PM
Hi, I'm moving to the Austin/San Antonio area in the next week or two and am looking for a rundown on the different card clubs in the area. I would prefer those over home games, but I'm only really interested in 2/5 or higher NLH action or PLO action. How many days a week can I find 2/5 and where? How many card rooms are in the area? Feel free to PM me if you want, any help would be appreciated

No, he experiences variance just like anyone. (And no, I'm not him lol.)

I live in the Austin area and plan on dropping by the Texas Card House (TCH). I'm still relatively new live player. I've mostly played live freerolls from Austin Poker group. I mostly grind away on BetOnline in the microstakes and freerolls.

I have played at Alamo Card House and got sucked out by a tilted player after my turn shove with a set of Queens vs a set of Jacks. You can guess what happened on the river. Though, I did manage to come back up a bit the next day.

How are the players that frequent TCH? Also, I only have a bankroll of $290. Roughly 3 min buy-ins and I'm use to playing short stack. Any advice and information would be good!

No. You'll need to go to private games to find 5/10

Update on Austin situation:

Good news for North-Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander, and Georgetown players - I played at Texas Card House Friday and according to the owner they have officially signed a lease for a place in North Austin. The North Austin location should be opening in about three months at Anderson Mill and 183.

I played the 2pm Sunday $100 tournament at TX card house. Unfortunately, the fees make this tournament unbeatable.

They charge $9+tax per hour just to play the tournament. Plus the daily membership fee of up to $10.

I played for 3.5 hours and was charged $46 in fees. The tournament was only about half-over so if I made the final table, it would have been a $100+80 tournament. Legal poker in Texas
