Thanks, but this is the vid Chuck also posted in the OP. I knew this one.
He had a small cameo on this one:

^ thx a lot but it's also not this one.

Probably some glitch in my memory and he wasn't even in the vid I'm thinking about.

Based on first episode this is probably more to people outside of poker community but it was OK, will watch them all.
We intentionally tried to present episode 1 in a way that would hopefully connect with broader audiences here in Finland -- poker players don't have the greatest public image here and we felt like it was important to show the profession as what it really is like. The tradeoff is that we have that ~5min stretch in the middle of the episode where Dan and Jens mention stuff that's obvious to any serious player, but based on feedback from the first 72 hours it was easily worth it. It's estimated that there are only a few hundred professionals left in Finland, yet this broke all previous records and has been seen by over 10 000 Finns within 3 days of its release, beating a bunch of stuff with 20x the production costs on streaming platforms and such.

Anyway, I hope poker audiences can get past that, since all the subsequent episodes are going to be full-on in-depth poker stuff. I personally can't wait for people to see the Antonius eps.

Just watched and it was great. Didn't necessarily learn anything new because Jens' career is pretty well documented in his own blogs and otherwise, but the doc is beautifully shot and obviously there isn't too much Finnish poker content so I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also really liked how Uniikki was utilized. Fantastic job! Eagerly waiting for the upcoming episodes.

Hopefully English subtitles won't take too long to be done.
Thanks so much for the well thought-out feedback, I'm really glad you enjoyed it

Episode 1 should be available with subtitles by Friday evening, I'll post here when it's ready.

Mild episode 2 spoiler:

We spotted this while shooting b-roll at the pool hall where Ziigmund and Antonius originally met each other as teens. That's a photo of a 17-year-old Ziigmund, who according to the article was Finland's #1 junior pool player.

Everyone at the pool place remembered Ilari and Patrik even though it's been 20+ years, and they could still point the table where they always used to play.

i really like the pool hall anecdote. legends.

Tikkurilan Biljardi :-)
That's where I first bumped into Ilari. Must be about 20 years ago.

I switched from pool to poker about 20 years ago as did many of the other good players I used to play with. Way easier and more profitable playing poker with a table full of fish than trying to battle one equally good pool player on the felt.

Didn't mean that one tho

I remember the clip was some sort of house party, maybe I'm totally mistaken and he wasn't even in there. The tune is still stuck in my head (hypa, hypa bhdbkbdtv) but didn't understand a single word.
This one?

Chorus is super contageous

Episode 1 with English subtitles:

I'd recommend watching it on YouTube, the subtitles look like crap in the embed.

Episode description:

The story of Jeans89: From freerolls to nosebleed games against Phil Ivey in two years

"I'm going to become a millionaire when I grow up", a young Jens "Jeans89" Kyllnen told his mom when she asked about his dream job. The promise materialized when Jens was just 19 years old and won the EPT Copenhagen Main Event for $1,12 million. Following his win, Jens became a mainstream celebrity in Finland overnight. How did Jens handle the media circus? What's the secret to Jens' success? How did he manage to stay sane while winning or losing hundreds of thousands of euros over a single session of poker?

Sorry,

here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nq9QWwWTYN8

Ilari paid 50k E to become the member of this group, so there is a chance, that he might appear in other videoclips. Try to check it out, I am curious, too.

The three videos linked in this thread are the only music videos where Ilari has a major role that I can think of, and I spent a silly amount of time researching this. I checked the Finnish poker scene news archives all the way until 2005, and there were tons of articles about those three and none about any other videos. I'm giving a solid 98% that if a 4th video existed, I would've found an article about it. He's a semi-member of the group Teflon Brothers, so for general Ilari/rap content in Finnish there might be something on this channel.

He has a tiny role in this video from JVG, which would match your house party description.

Ilari has always been a huge fan of Finnish rap, and the reason he's appeared in these videos / wanted to do some rap cameos himself is truly because he loves the scene so much. I had tinnitus for like 6 months after riding in Ilari's Ferrari once when he blasted random Finnish rap so loud that they could probably hear it in Sweden

The Pojat on poikii video that also appears in our documentary is probably THE Ziigmund video though, since the whole screenplay with the midgets throwing 500€ notes on a hungover Ilari and whatnot was actually based on his idea and (afaik) written by him to some extent. See 2:14 onwards here

nice enjoyed watching the first episode featuring Jens.

how is the structure for this documentary?
For instance is each episode going to be featuring 1 main character and their poker story?

Glad you enjoyed it!

It varies a little bit from episode to episode, but the Jens episode was by far the most static one. What I tried to do while writing the show was to keep it interesting and varied yet at the same time have a recognizable structure so that it won't feel like a mess. I'm tentatively somewhat optimistic about having pulled this off, but the jury's still out!

Basically the background storyline of following Dan's poker journey around the world carries from one episode to the next in linear fashion, while there will also be a guest or guests in each episode who Dan meets, and within the guests' stories we might travel into the past as well in documentary fashion. When it's guys like Patrik (episodes 2-3), we obviously let them tell their whole story, since when it comes to endbosses like that it would be a crime to not do that. There might be future episodes where we focus more on just a certain subject (say, a mental game episode where Dan visits a well-known coach, or a streaming episode where we visit huge streamer names but focus more on the streaming world than the life stories of the streamers).

There will also be a subtle travel element in the upcoming episodes, not so much in terms of writing but cinematography-wise, which will hopefully add to the watching experience.

To me, the key is that whatever we do, I want it to be fresh. I have no interest in re-telling Moneymaker's story for the 428th time and so on. What I personally think we should continue to focus on is covering the Nordic boom -- I'm not sure how aware Americans are of this, but for the last 20 years there's always been a ridiculous number of Nordic players at the very very top of the online pyramid. Lodden, LarsLuzak, Antonius, Jens, Ziigmund, Isildur, Fiilismies, EEE27, btnclicker, and many others... Not that much is known about these guys especially internationally even though they were/are THE best players of their time. So many interesting stories there that are not that well known, especially outside the Nordics, and I'd love to get more endbosses like that to open up on camera.

Who I believe might be *the* biggest online winner in the world over the last few years has already tentatively promised to appear in an episode of Last Call, and I don't think almost anyone even knows who he is.

Mika Immonen is the best pool player to come out of Finland. He has won many major tournaments, including the U.S. Open twice and was recently inducted into the Billiards Hall of Fame.
