I used to wonder how so many people wound up on the streets in Vegas but judging from this thread it's all from forum related challenges. Joking about living homeless is bizarre. It is an incredibly stressful life that erodes most people's mental stability. Assuming everyone is just going to fold up is also a weird vibe. People threatening you might be conceptually scary but in the moment the adrenaline will force most to choose fight/flight at a pretty random clip. Ppl ain't soft when they can't afford to be. Landon clearly wants to be famous; instead of roasting his cringe ass we should come up with a prop bet we actually want to see.

or ****it we keep roasting him.

Only read the past few pages but where is anyone joking about being homeless or making fun of homeless people? Vegas has exploded in homelessness since i've moved here but im pretty sure no one thinks its funny or is making jokes about them.

It's not - i've lived in a hotel for a month and it sucked. I even had a kitchen in mine. Living in Vegas on the strip for a year would be brutal. I wouldn't do this for 100k.

When I was younger I stayed 6 weeks in vegas - which I enjoyed but now I'd rather be in nature.

Heads up - if any one does want to stay long term in a hotel, you can generally work out a deal with them. The place I stayed at wanted $149 a night - but I talked them down to 3100 for the whole month. Hilton suites

For 100k at 23 I think it is amazing. If you can still physically go outside I think it is a no brainer.

Gives him the chance to digress from poker whilst still heavily grinding poker online and in the casino (admittedly lower stakes). You never know, maybe he could make a 'landon table' for higher stakes at Ballys.

If it were me I would also take up an online course for finance or something to kill the time and get a piece of paper/some extra future life skills.

Hardest bit would not being able to cook. But that's just me.

Have you ever seen an employee working for minimum wage? I'd rather live in a casino for a year than be a fast food worker for much less.

Nailed it in two sentences. Well done. Some people have no idea what it is like to live in the real world.

no fresh air allowed... also might have outs if A/C goes out (esp. with Lake Mead so low)

if someone finds some rich dude to fund my retirement by me not going out for a year or seeing anyone (except to receive food), hook me up brah

He’s not getting 100K after figuring in hotel and the higher cost of meals. Maybe he can work out a long term deal with Ballys but questions will probably be asked and if they are aware of this bet I’m not so sure they would be anxious to help him out. And they might even stop him from doing it. Think of terrible PR potential if something bad happens.

I don’t also see “Landon’s game” or “Tice Tuesdays” or whatever going at 2/5 or higher. Very few people know who he is and he doesn’t seem that entertaining. But maybe by brute force he can get a semi regular 2/5 going

Assuming you can clear around 60-70K this bet would be worth it if you were a minimum wage worker. Essentially you can make 2-3 years by not working. And if you had some type of support system with loved ones and friends visiting and the discipline to use the time for good. Obviously if you are prone to drink and gamble this would be a disaster

You do realize that minimum wage equates to $15,080 a year if you are lucky to get 40 hours a week? Most low wage workers get 20 hours or less, kind of a double whammy in the suck department. And no benefits, meaning no vacation time, no sick time, no health insurance, no retirement, no nothing. Even $15 an hour sucks with costs today. For any minimum wage worker, this is a dream. The fact that it isn't a dream to many of us tells the tale. I am old and on a fixed income that inflation is killing the past couple years (I mean, it was low before inflation, but ****, it is insane now), I would take this in a heartbeat as long as I could have my old dog and be able to take her to the vet if needed. Seriously, this would be a game changer for many low income people. Says a lot about our country and the attitudes of those who have no idea what it is like to be on the edge wage wise in Merica. I don't know Landon Tice, but it is pretty obvious he isn't a minimum wage slave if he thinks this is a great bet. Or maybe I should be condemning whoever takes this bet.

At $15 an hour which was minimum wage in my area I believe it does translate into around 2-3 years worth.

Certainly this would be huge for anyone of even more limited means but also a moot point as they would never be offered the bet. So it really wasn’t worth being brought up by myself or anyone else

But this bet is still kind of soft, although it might be harder than one may imagine

Yikes... where do you live? Where I am, minimum wage for 40 hours per week for 50 weeks per year comes out to $31,000 (at least, it will in 2023). For my friends down the road in Emeryville, it's $35,360. Across the way in Berkeley, it will be $33,980.

But agree, minimum wage is a tough grind no matter where you are. That California minimum wage is pretty much equal to that of Iowa and Kansas once you factor COL. e.g. the $18.17 for hotel workers in Santa Monica is absolutely loose change when you consider that the median monthly rent anywhere near there is north of $5K. Someone working as a housekeeper at the Ocean View Hotel must have to commute two hours to make it work.

ScotchOnDaRocks has it right. As I mentioned above, once you consider the costs of completing this bet, he's not making nearly $100K. Consider an alternate offer: suppose we picked up your hotel room, your meals (food and non-alcoholic beverages only) plus your resort fees. Would you live a full year without leaving the Bally's/Paris property for $25K? Anything you win at the table is yours, but any other expense is also on you.

It's still very doable, but when worded that way, the offer becomes less attractive even though it's essentially the same.

Minimum wage where I live is $7.25 an hour, which is the federal rate. My state actually doesn't have an official minimum wage (quite a few don't). Also, I think most folks do not realize that in most states the minimum wage does not apply to agricultural work, so people in some jobs actually get legally paid less than $7.25/hr. Not to mention gig workers, waitress staff, etc. Restaurant wait staff is minimum wage $2.15 an hour last I looked and the expectation is the tips make up the difference, but in restaurants in the US, customers are fully expected to pay the restaurant wait staff (Europeans and Asians absolutely do not get this). Just as an aside, I hit age discrimination a few years ago and my last job before getting social security and my military retirement at age 60 (National Guard) was $7.35 an hour. I was desperate (and I have three degrees, etc., have worked at fairly high levels, blah blah, NO ONE would hire me in those years as the labor market was tight as hell). Their pitch was I would get 40 hours a week instead of the normal low wage worker 20 hours or less (such as in most retail/service job settings). The other pitch was it was higher than minimum wage. So, $7.35/hr was wonderful at 40 hours versus Lowes at $8.00/hr and 18 hours a week.

Anyway, I would take this bet in a second. It all depends on where you are coming from, I guess. I can deal with a hotel room, I lived in a tent with 16 other guys in Iraq for a year with a bathroom and shower you had to walk to and a mess hall that was even further. I hear how bad it is to walk in Vegas in summer, try walking a mile to the mess hall in 125 F heat three times a day wearing body armor and in full uniform with a weapon. Not to mention the mortars and rockets that were shot at us every day. And we had extremely limited Internet and no live poker except some nickel/dime games once in a while after working 12 hours a day seven days a week. Because I like to read and do various passive things, I could keep myself productive and happy in a hotel room where I actually get to leave the room, eat decent food, etc. And I would bank the $100K to pay for when I am in a smaller nursing home room because my retirement doesn't cover that kind of thing nor do I have the savings for it.

Sign me up, baby.

iirc Landon doesn't have to pay for the hotel, and when you factor in he'd have to pay for food etc anyway, it is basically 100k for a year.
