Longer than that. I heard a version back when bad beat jackpots started being a thing. Mid to late 90s?

A young womans boyfriend? LOL. In other words, some guy offered you coke and now you're bff? I only mention this because it sounds like there's more to this story involving the "young woman." Do tell.

Speaking of poker parties, an older gentleman whipped out a bag of molly at the table one day and offered me some right at the table in front of everyone.

Speaking of Dnegs years ago I saw him in Reno, NV during a tournament series.

After the day's tournament he played 1/3, and was extremely nice/friendly, taking pics with people, giving fun table talk before folding to another player's shove, and just generally giving everyone at the table a great experience.

I was playing on a different table in the same vicinity, and it really struck me how nice he was. He seemed like he was genuinely enjoying just joking around and playing for fun at stakes that were insignificant to him.

That night was likely a once in a lifetime type of experience for several of those 1/3 players.

I was playing 5/10 nl one day at bellagio and he was waiting for some Bobby's room game and sat in my game. Annoyingly he wasn't in punter mode as I thought he might be. But I was amazed how at friendly he was to people coming up to him. I mean in an hour probably 20 random people came by for pictures etc. That would drive me absolutely crazy but it seems like he really enjoys it.

Played with Orel Hershiser before and he was kind enough to let the Dodger fans at the table wear his WS ring for pictures with him.

For how nice he is he seems to get too much grief on this board. And I don’t know why. He genuinely likes people and social interactions.

He gave me the "do you know who I am" routine when I called the clock on him in 2/5 a long time ago when he played a lot.

I fouled a guys hand (sort of), pretty sure the only time in 50+ years of play I pulled that one. I a bit disgustedly slung my cards toward the dealer from about the 7-seat, they overshot a bit wild and were right next to a players hand in the 4-seat. About two inches away. He was looking back over his shoulder talking to someone, and shuffling his cards a bit that were on the table. He was all-in on the pot. Not seeing that my cards had landed so close, he shuffled my hand into his. Dead hand.

As he left the table, I told him if I won the high hand or bad beat I would split it with him. Within 30 minutes I flopped quad 8's and won the high hand. I took a bit of a walk thru the room/grill, it was the dog track in St. Pete, and there he was. I gave him the $200 and apologized again. Bro had to be on very hard times; he broke down and cried, removing sunglasses to wipe his tears. Wow.

(The reason I say I "sort of" fouled his hand is that the dealer, seeing my hand land so close to his, instead of quickly grabbing it, problem ended, she called the floor and just waited on him. In that interim the kid shuffled my cards into his. So it was part dealer drama that caused it.)

Not involving money ... simply when a person at the table is sincerely polite as a routine thing. It's enough to embarrass most of us.

Heartwarming in today's uncertain times. Who says poker doesn't bring us together?

Backstory: I was born and raised in soflo. I watched Moneymaker and eventually ended up blowing 10k and a 2k line of credit on fun poker times. PBKC, Hard Rock, Home Games. I'd get lucky now and then and had read some books, but I was a drug-addict tilt monkey. At some point I ended up with a job making 10$ an hour and a couch at my bosses 1br to sleep on in Gardena CA. I got to see LA County and play no limit cash games for the first time. Summer of 2005 I was diagnosed with a rare joint disease and had a surgery on my knee that the doctor botched. I was on painkillers for 2 months and was suffering intense chronic pain while still being expected to do hard manual labor. It put a big strain on my relationship with my Boss, who was an addict himself and trying to stay clean. I eventually stopped taking the pills but I was no longer mentally healthy, isolating, and started drinking and gambling whenever I had money.

Story: Day before Thanksgiving 2005, My boss and his gf let me know they're going out of town the next day. I've never been alone on T-day and I was in a deep depression with chronic pain still basically crippling me. I went to Hollywood Park and sat down with my last $100. I ended up making $60 or so and then a guy sat-down across from me. Very talkative and we had things in common. At one point he asked me if I smoked weed, and I said yes. I hadn't smoked anything since I'd been in LA, for 7months. I went with him to his car and we talked poker, work, food, life and smoked a j. After about an hour he says he's got to go cash out. I say thanks and he asks if I have any. I say no, and he hands me a couple grams and some papers. That bud got me through the next day and really made things easier for me. That's it. Just a time in my life where that sort of interaction and gesture of kindness was non-existent, so it stuck with me.

Was weed helping with the pain part of this?

I think it'll be awhile before he's forgiven for shilling the "more rake is better" line

Fwiw, a few times I've seen a blind guy play in Las Vegas with similar assistance.

In the world of poker in general, I recall a Feed America online celebrity tournament hosted by ACR in April 2020, with a $10,000 buyin and all buy-ins/ proceeds going to charity. https://www.cardplayer.com/poker-new...-charity-event A lot of celebrities donated money and time and played, including Tom Brady, Ben Affleck, et cetera.

This is the story I read a long time ago about bad beat jackpot revenge at the table:

https://www.espn.com/espn/poker/colu...ine&id=2316427

Truth or bs? IDK, wasn't there.

Kind gestures are subjective..

Soft play and rebates are well intentioned but in reality it’s soft play and inevitably unkind to the rest of the table.

Had a hand the other day where my buddy (whom I battle w) stacked me and threw me a $50 rebate after the hand which I refused.

Dnegs bigtimed me in the Rio after I busted the Main. To be fair though, I think he was like 0-50 in mtts that summer so understandably a little grumpy.

refuse the $50 if you want to, but nobody at the table should care. it's not that serious.
