"Two years ago, almost to the day, the Kentucky Court of Appeals overturned an $870 million judgment against PokerStars. Today, the state’s Supreme Court re-reversed that decision, putting its new parent company, Flutter, on the hook for that eye-watering amount."

I mean we all hate 'Stars but what's the evidence that it's a "criminal syndicate"?
Ah ok the first link explains in more detail, but had to google cuz the characters are removed here.
Thanks for posting

That's is a ridiculous high number, even for a big company Like flutter/PokerStars this will be freaking huge. Wondering if they have to pay in one payment or rates. Iirc correctly flutters revenue is only couple of billions, so this is a gigantic fine for them.

Guess massive rake increase coming

If you remember back in the UIGEA days, Kentucky was at the forefront of pushing to seize domains and whatnot. Def not an online-gaming friendly state at all.

I can't stand horseshit like this. Not like the money is going to go back to the players that lost either. And a nice aggressive 12% interest rate to boot?

This is a disgrace. From what I have read, Stars generated $18m in revenues from 2006-Black Friday in Kentucky specifically. So what kind of ridiculous shakedown is this supposed to be and how are they getting away with it?

Here's some commentary derived from one of the articles linked in OP.

I've bumped the 2011 NVG thread for those who are interested in the background of KY vs. PokerStars.

I’m no legal scholar but this news would make me cash-out ASAP if I had any money on there.

^ don't listen to utter drivel like this, all player funds are ring fenced on PokerStars.

I don't think there is cause for alarm. It seems unlikely that they would get anything approaching this amount but Flutter can raise capital quickly as they have done in the past and will likely sue the Scheinbergs in the worst case scenario. The whole thing just seems completely ridiculous to me. Kentucky are a cash starved state and trying to use some 200 year old legal technicality to generate a massive payday at someone else's expense.

Sure, and it was all safe and secure on Full Tilt and Stars pre Black Friday, too

Either way, it’s my opinion, not drivel. You can disagree but that doesn’t make it drivel. In fact, put more bluntly, I would run for the hills.

Tell me, what harm is there in cashing out just to be safe? Worst case scenario, you have to deposit it back IF they’re still around when the dust settles.

The player funds are ring fenced whilst operating, if they were to go bust players become unsecured creditors and the lawyers will see to you getting nothing, nadda, nilch.

Maybe Im uninformed but why is the assumption ITT so far that KY would be able to collect on this?
Pokerstars isn't an American company so my assumption would be it has no legal obligations here except to NJ and NV where it operates.
I doubt Pstars gives a flying **** what the court of KY rules.

I would assume the Kentucky Supreme Court wouldn’t have bothered with the case if their ruling didn’t matter. Then again, common sense and government rarely mix well.

This IMO. I don't live far away and would be sweet for Kentucky to stop being stupid but don't see any reason why Pokerstars even cares about a Kentucky??

I doubt PS will pay anytime soon, they will only pay a portion once Adelson dies and PS has a chance of re-entering the US market.
