I don't know much about it, but I think that yeah, it could be because of not having insurance. I don't think it's limited to that though.

Quit trolling you are failing incredibly hard. If you were actually there then you would have taken the picture. Title should be "OP....broke and living in parents basement".

getting arrested for this seems absurd, is that standard in the USA?

I would think car impounded and a fine/court date would suffice, does he really need to be handcuffed?

I don't know if it's the same everywhere, but normally you would get a ticket and court date for having expired tags and no insurance. Then if you didn't pay or show up a bench warrant would be issued.

Seems more likely that they found drugs in the car or something and the expired plates was just what got him pulled over. You don't get arrested for expired plates. They tow the car and you pay a ticket.

The two things listed would be what was immediately apparent. If they have suspicion of further activity they can hold him for up to 72 hours until charges are filed. Could be the case if there were drugs, for example, and they're establishing evidence before they file charges.

It's also not totally impossible that those two charges are old and he just didn't pay his fines or go to his court date and had a bench warrant out.

Okok , all details . Hot hooker looking girl was railing his arrest before getting to leave and I guess there was another before I got there that left and they were both in car. Weird part is cop car in front of him 2 cop cars behind him then a cab behind cop car being questioned and taking pictures of his cab and behind that another car being questioned and pictures also.then they went thru his trunk and pulled out some case box put it on hood taking pictures of it and pointing in it while questioning him and sealing up stuff with zip lock bags out of it. Oh and that other car I think its custom plate said taxed ....kind of ironic

I'm not a Nevada lawyer, but my (mildly) educated guess here is that there's a warrant out on the expired plates issue and JRB has simply ignored it. $1570 seems like a pretty substantial fine for expired plates.

I don't know the amount of the fine, but in Nevada, the annual charge for car registration is based on the MSRP of the vehicle (and then the depreciated value in subsequent years). I paid $1,506 for my initial registration and then it dropped to just under $1,400 the 2nd year. So $1,570 doesn't seem out of line.

Probable scenario: Cited for expired plates and no insurance, miss your court date, warrant issued and then arrested; no major crime (though driving around 4,000 pounds of metal, rubber and steel without (proof of) being able to compensate someone if you injure them is irresponsible) but major inconvenience.

If you would read the Clark County Posting, the $1570 is not a fine nor registration fee. It appears to be a cash bond which is typically 10% of the total Bond amount $15,700. Looks like the bail hearing is at 1:00 PM Nevada time today.
