I know major US networks forced some changes on the NHL for example.
The Effel QJ interview almost makes it seem that ESPN is forcing the WSOP hand.
Also it seems they may be waivng this so called ruel for now but they may enforce it if ESPN tells them to. So who really knows wtf is going to happen. This should be clear before you pay your entry fee. Effel was really sketchy about this issue and it seems that ESPN will decide not him.
"the rule is in place, it is there if we need it" oh great bs disgression.

I wonder if part of the problem is unrealistic expectations? I'm not sure exactly what Harrah's, (excuse me Caesar's Entertainment), was thinking when they bought the WSOP franchise from the Binion family. I suspect what they were thinking was that they could elevate poker (and the WSOP) into the same lofty stratosphere as golf and other professional sports. However, considering the general nature of poker, the boorish behavior of [some] "professional" poker players, and Caesar's apparent inability or unwillingness to crack down on deplorable behavior; I'm not sure if the general public (and major advertisers) will ever accept and embrace poker to the same extent that the general public accepts and embraces other sports - like golf.
As long as Caesar's fails to adopt a consistent set of rules - applied evenly to all poker players both amateur and professional alike - they'll continue to stumble from one disaster to the next. Maybe what David Bonderman and Texas Pacific Group should have done with the WSOP was hire somebody to run it that players universally respect - somebody like say Jack Binion or someone of his stature who actually understands the game.
