If players like Jon didn't speak up about these issues when the camera is on them, then things would only get worse (faster) at the WSOP.

The things he griped about at the FT were the verbal declaration rule and favoritism, both of which the vast majority of players are against.

don't really have anything to say abotu this matter in particular (i mean, it seems stupid, anytime the rules are different for a final table than they were for the rest of the tournament before you got there, it's ****ing stupid) but just wanted to say that the wsop's incompetence year after year continues to amaze me. i can't believe anyone in charge of anything can walk and chew gum at the same time.

i've learned over the years that many organizations are not run optimal, but there is a great distance between just "poorly run" and what the wsop/rio is. the decisions they make, the dealers they employ, and half of the floor rulings are what oyu might expect to happen when there is a ridiculous monopoly and people will show up even if you run the whole thing like morons-- which is precisely what appears to have happened.

harrahs response to a public player criticizing them with good size twitter following is to try and shame him instead of like, talking with players and try and come up with solutions that will work for all parties.

seems like mature professionals really.

just stick to skimming as much off the top as you can hey guys?

It's been one rule for big names and another for everyone else for some time now at the WSOP.

Before the final table announcements, made by the legendary Redbull Robbie Thompson, the players were discussing the new "verbalization rule." Earlier today, Jonathan Aguiar was protesting the rule on Twitter - he was at the final table of Event 5: $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em yesterday - and Andy Bloch apparently agrees with him. He doesn't want to verbalize his actions either.

We'll keep an eye on how the players adapt, or if they ignore he rule altogether.

I guess, Bloch is VIP enough to ignore the rule. same prolly goes for greenstgein and williams. once they bust, rule will be enforced again

Rather than see the players risk penalties by veto'ing the rule, I'd like to see them take it the other way, and announce EVERYTHING they do. There's a scene from a movie, I cant remember which one, where prisoners are working out on a road on a hot day in the chain gang. And they keep saying "wiping my brow, boss"..."taking a drink of water, boss"

Imagine
"riffling my chips here boss"
"tweeting my backers here boss"
"scratching my ass here boss"
"taking a sip from my one drop water bottle here boss"

This rule is a disadvantage to anyone at a feature table, as if getting less hands an hour wasn't enough, someone might hear your voice break if your attempting a monster bluff.

Negreanu offers his take:

The @wsop retweet was unprofessional and having to verbalize bets at FT is silly and adds nothing. Can't imagine that rule will last a week.

Been watching the live stream of the 7stud event for about a half hour, haven't heard 1 verbalization of action by anyone other than the announcer.

On the other hand:

WTF? You ever been to Binions during the WSOP? Oh yeah, everyone was ALWAYS happy there, nobody ever complained about anything, it was paradise...

The rule is really foolish , almost as foolish as Jon talking about the old days like he was some oldtimer road gambler who actually knew benny, lol. Like someone said, this is a job for the dealers or announcer (wtf is the mic for) to announce the bets, not the players.

Oh it was made very much in jest.

Does his tweet imply that this rule will somehow grow the game of poker. I don't get it. Guy sounds like a total douche nozzle.

I honestly think he's suggesting that criticizing the wsop will hinder the growth the game of poker which IMO is the complete opposite right answer

Probably one of his dumb ass ideas, him being on the player advisory board and all that crap. Seriously they act like they are doing everybody a favor by letting them playing for their own prize pool. Its not like they are kicking in a huge amount.

Completely stupid rule. What if a player has stuttering or social anxiety issues....or even more has great difficulty speaking English. I like the idea of mocking their idiotic rule by verbally announcing your every waking move at the table. Even worse, wsop retweeting that is beyond unprofessional
