people asked what would happen to Sebok once the UB gravy train crashed, well here it is. For those wanting to TPMM Sebok and Greenstein are examples to stay in school, Home foreclosures and grape crushing, enough said.

Well hey, I am happy/relieved for Sebok.

He never really understand the poker world, and this seems like more honest work anyway.

I find it a little obnoxious for him to say, "It's well documented that poker players are lazy" but I guess it's more of a reflection of his own values than the reality of poker players' work ethic.

As for the timeline--the article says he "took a break" from poker at the end of 2011. Wasn't he being considered for a WPT job earlier this year?

You fail to see the big picture, The bank did not care about his "PhD in math" when they foreclosed. Use these two as an example to not go the TPMM route that is completely unrealistic for 100% of the people on here.

Its pretty annoying (but in no way surprising) how this guy is trying to portray himself like he chose to leave poker "because all he was doing was counting his money" when in reality he was one of the most universally disliked people in the poker community (a pretty hard thing to pull off and by far his biggest accomplishment). Funny to hear him say poker players are lazy as well when the only reasons he even ever was in the poker world was because he got lucky with a twitter account, used his fathers name to promote himself and sold out his name on empty promises. Articles like this are frightening because they makes you realize just how little research goes into so many of the articles newspapers put out (blackmail and the WPT story are both on first page of google).

First he tried to make it as a professional player and failed after the dirty sponsorship money ran out, then he tried to get a job in the industry for WPT and failed because everyone knows he is a scumbag, now he talks in the article about how all he was doing was "counting his money" and poker players dont have other interests. Good luck with your ****ing grapes Joe!

I agree with everything else, but do you really take exception to this?? While i don't know who's "documenting" this, seems pretty true IME, esp relative to the corporate world.

No, he doesn´t.

After graduating from Bogan High School,[3] he earned a bachelor degree in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He studied for a PhD in mathematics, but never defended his completed dissertation.
Seems like the equivalent of never pursuing a PhD at all.

Remember this guy is a professional poker player, i.e. liar, and my guess is nothing ever happened. At all.

"The game of poker is great and has been good to me over the years," he said. "But at the end of the day, if you're not doing other stuff, all you are doing is counting money."

It doesn't say he is counting money. It says all you (poker players) do is count money.
And it's true. You count it before, during and after you play, mostly while sitting on your ass..

So the guy decided to do some manual labor.. build some muscle and get in shape. In the Summer he might even get to work outside, and catch some rays..

It sure sounds to me like the 2L who couldn't get a summer associate job so went to work in an Alaskan cannary for the summer and justified his failure by promoting a "life" and "real work" while trying to belittle those doing exactly what he failed to achieve.

"No, no, I'm here by choice..."

He was charged with punchdowns, the rigorous task of "punching" the top layer of grapes down...

"...This extended maceration means…more work. During this time the skins must continually be “punched down” to avoid the cap from drying out and to keep the skins connected with the juice...."

I moved furniture for about a year and given the choice, would do it again before doing this..
