The mere existence of this thread shows what's wrong with NVG.

Didn't pay much attention to the coverage but the way he checked was the only thing I found kinda annoying.

Yea. I havent watched the WSOP just googled a few images of him. Actually I watched a clip where he 4bet shoved AA into Negraneau and he folded. Yea, he did seem a bit desheveled looking, but thats the standard norm for live poker these days. Aprt from the hood and beard he seemed to act just fine to me.
What exactly is it about him that made him so awful a human being?
Can I get a one sentence cliff on his final table awfulness please? Thanks.

He played well. He was very lucky. He didn't spew off chips just because he had so many. All these things combined to get him the win.

He dressed and looked like crap on a big stage for the poker world. That was only mildly annoying to me. After all, He was not the first , nor will he be the last to do that.

It's the annual airing of the collective frustration that the poker world has once again failed to find the magical savior/ambassador who will turn back time to 2005.

I wanted to give off the image that it was my table to all of the other players and that they would have to fight me tooth and nail for any little thing they could get. A lot of my table talk was to do either the same exact thing, or to make me look stupider than I actually am. Anyone that's played with me deep in a tournament has likely experienced this one way or another. I also made a lot of faces for the crowd in between hands. They laughed more often than they didn't. I was enjoying myself. I (clearly) didn't care how I came off on television because I was there to win a poker tournament, not make a bunch of people all over the world think I had my life in order. Hard to argue with the results in this case. Even if, I dressed up a little. I bought sports jerseys! I followed the tradition of Merson and Riess as winners. Pro tip: wear a jersey if you make it to the november 9 and your equity gets an automatic boost.

And yes, I ran ridiculously above EV the entire time, dating back to July. It was almost laughable at how good I was running, and toward the end I couldn't even contain myself anymore. The amount of premium cards I got was astounding, even to me.

Congrats on the win Joe but you should of been more aware of how you came off on T.V because you sort of did poker a disservice with your sloppy look and weird mannerisms. The final table was cringe worthy really and boring. Joe you have always been a great tournament player but you didn't see the big picture here. You say you were there to win the tournament which is true but you could of at least looked the part as a professional and had a cleaner appearance and a little more personality. I was honestly going for the 24 year old kid because I liked his attitude more compare to yours and I thought he would of been much better for the game of tournament poker because you could see the guys dedication and passion. No new players are going to flock to the game now because you came off as dull with a socially awkward attitude which is disappointing because you seem like a nice guy who is just a little strange.

If I'd just won the Main Event, I wouldn't be posting on 2+2 right now.
I'd still be peeling the hookers from the ceiling of my suite.

Congrats though.

None of this has any basis in reality. Poker wasn't done a disservice. No mass of new players were going to flock to the game if he wore a nicer shirt, or if Beckley won, or the guy in the fedora. It didn't happen last year or the year before, and it won't happen next year. If it ever happens again it won't be clothes related or because some guy at the final table seemed really cool.

As for criticizing him for the final table being boring...why should he care if it was boring? It was insanely awesome for him that it was boring. It was boring because he had a massive chiplead, played great, didn't do anything stupid, and ran like god.

I agree. I ended up more frustrated with the rest of the table playing for the pay jumps than I was with his staring/"no runners"/and being constantly hit by the deck.

I like that pro tip. Congrats man!

To all the people saying he ran good....no **** it's tournament poker. All the people typing that must think their a poker god, when in reality they probably ran just as good when they hit all their big scores. Again, its called tournament poker.

So many haters, it's embarrassing.

As a Philadelphian, the Iverson jersey was awesome! Besides, I don't remember anyone giving Ryan Riess **** for wearing a Megatron jersey.

I agree it's not your job to make it interesting, but to win, and you did.
You dispatched them like a professional assassin.
I liked the sports jerseys and didn't understand the flak you got for that.
Why not a Flyers' jersey too though? You got the avatar with Crysbaby divin', I love it!
