I was a member of the GTO club from November 2016 until it was shut down right before the world series in 2017. The basic premise of GTO club was a group of like minded individuals brought together to help accomplish their goals or in my case figure out how to accomplish their goals.
Most members of the group were and are professional poker players or at least aspiring pros. At the time when I joined I worked in a factory building printing presses and fell into the later category (aspiring pro). My goal had, since about 2004, to become a professional poker player. I went through the poker boom as mostly a losing player, had some tournament success around 2009 but was for the most part just a fun player. I didn't know it at the time but I was really pretty horrible at the game.
Joining the club immediately opened my eyes to how bad a player I really was and much more importantly, how much work I needed to do on myself as a person.
When you joined the group you were asked to start figuring out your goals and to start a thread in the forums we had (much like the PG&C threads). We would have skype meetings on a pretty regular basis discussing the different members issues they were having accomplishing their goals. It was great to get feedback from such bunch of well rounded guys. The purpose of most of this all was to keep everyone accountable for what they were doing and working on. There were some that did really well and some that got burnt out and quit.
Joey would usually call me once a week to see how I was doing, how my job was and how poker was going. We would discuss strat on how to go about learning and how my goals were going. He was constantly learning and trying to figure out the best way to go about what we were working on in the group to help make us the people that we said we wanted to be.
If you ever have the chance to be around someone as passionate as Joey I would jump at the chance if I were you, it was probably the most pivotal time in my life. I recently quit my job, finally reaching the goal to become a professional poker player. Honestly I'm not sure that would be possible without the GTO club and Joey.
I know Joey didn't really advertise his gto club channel but if you're interested in the different topics that he went over there was a bunch of content he put out on youtube for people to find if they wanted it.
