I don't understand what you say to your parents and inlaws about losing millions on a card game.
Responsible parents at the very least would say, "Never gamble what you can't afford to lose!"
Having said that, I do see why so many can be sucked into degeneracy because the money can seem so easy to win right back with the instant turn of a card and all problems will be solved (good side of variance).
When the stakes are too large you can sometimes fall off and you can't get back up in any meaningful way, though...Risk of ruin always needs to be seriously considered even if you have a good edge.
