With the stories of people going broke, does 12 million even surprise you? Iverson like 100 million, Antoine Walker 80 million. Tyson, 300 million.

12 million is like a drop in the bucket.

The more I think about it, the more this actually seems like genius idea. What better way is there for a pawn shop to market to degenerates?

Advertising a pawn shop to a load of degenerate gambles is definitely +EV.

I'll bite. How do you know that he's anything but broke? Seems there is a lot pointing to the fact that he is...

I've not seen the compensation listed anywhere, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did. I can't imagine a better "sport" that a pawn shop would want to be affiliated with and Gold is a pretty good choice. Google suggests adding "broke" to his name when searching...

So what? OK, "drink and diet" may not be poker advice exactly, but they are important. But one thing I did not get was whether he did coach that guy or not? As I understand, the boy got the satellite and won it? But if Gold coached him to reach 76th - that's pretty amazing.

Gold's true skills lie in people-reading and emotional / psychological manipulation and warfare.. Hollywood business-world skills... and he pretty much schooled all the opponents unfortunate enough to come up against him in that 2006 ME..

But there's no way he can teach those to anyone.. either you got it or you don't. And even if he could teach it, you cannot use much of it anymore due to his success (Jaime Gold Rule, more attention paid to "unfair" bluff tactics, etc..)

And if I have anything against the guy, it is that his overwhelming success and the resulting fallout also made the best part of my game unusable.
