Surprised this hasnt been brought up yet but I got my newest Cigar Afficionado a few days ago and the the great Phil Ivey was on the cover. Although there have been many poker articles in the pages before (Dwan, Robl, and a few others were featured in an article this summer about online poker), I am almost certain this is the first poker player to get the front cover.

Interesting article by Michael Kaplan, although he touches upon some of the go to stories about phil ivey like the no home jerome stuff, his huge wins online and live, I think he takes a different perspective than most. He paints a picture of phil ivey not only as a poker player, but his goals for the future which include being a high stakes options trader, as well as owning a casino for the highest of high rollers. He finally talks a lot about the good life that Ivey has enjoyed due to his winnings with the great cars, comps, trips, meals, and cigars. I think it was a really good article and make sure you check out the magazine because all poker players should enjoy a few fine cigars.

Btw, he lists his favorite cigar as the cuban Partagas Soaloman II Especialidads. This cigar is just about as rare as they come but Ivey has great taste as Cigar Afficionado's James Suckling gives the cigar a 99.

lucky! I'm still waiting on my issue. My local cigar shop has had it since last week. I don't know why I'm so late in getting mine. maybe I just run bad with the USPS.

I thought the Raymer piece from a few years ago was much better than the Ivey piece. I'm guessing that Kaplan had much better access to Raymer than he did to Ivey.

does it say this in the article? this is surprising to me. i don't doubt that he's smart enough to be a successful options trader but am surprised that he'd be interested in it. i guess he heard you can make a lot more money in it than poker if you're good
