jfc... so typical of a scam thread. Once the perpetrator of the crime goes MIA or doesn't show for the pitchforks, victims turn on one another trying to doll out blame for the scammers actions.
Shak is the person responsible. Others are victims of trusting someone, helping someone. Shak took advantage of these players generosity as well.
I did actually consider this at the time. The stated intention was that he use the account to play mtts, which, due to hundreds of hours of working on our games together, i believed were quite similar with any true edge differences being quite small.
You do make a very good point about identity. To be honest i do not consider myself anywhere near enough of a known quantity in the poker world that somebody is legitimately playing a different strategy on a different site because they think they are playing against me. If there were playing history on the account and people will have developed hud stats that then deviate it is a different story.
With all of that said, the account was undeniably in my name, and in future I will make sure all representations of me are actually me.
I think your underestimating your sn reach in the poker community , espically when you have been the spot in a lot of Somervilles 5card plo twitch streams
Not really buying that 20 MTTs a day every day for a year, plus live play, plus running a stable, plus owning operating a small business (which I do) ...."isn't hard" . Seems super dubious ....but I guess possible?
With admitting to allowing others to play on his accounts one might wonder if there's more to this. Just sayin
Perhaps we've opened another can of worms into possible multiaccounting tournaments by Shak or others with these account exchanges, especially any with an overlay

Has this situation something to do with why Jason Sommerville unfriended him on one of his last streams?
That escalated quickly, I am not sure why people are berating Daniel, he has specifically explained his involvement in Shak and that's where it ends. It takes a lot of courage to post what he did and how substantially he is owed, as he is basically writing off a large debt.
As a friend of Daniels I can back up Oliver's comment that, disregarding his table demeanor, he is genuinely one of the nicest guys you can meet who would do anything for anyone and more importantly his integrity can't be questioned. It's Shak that has hurt everyone, not Daniel, you can't berate someone for genuinely believing in a friend and giving them a second chance, a lot of people take their second chances if they are lucky enough and flourish, Shak hasn't.
At some points I felt like Shak was a friend who helped me improve my game and gave me an incredible opportunity to improve, other times I didn't, I put it down to just him being moody and lazy. I am lucky enough to not be financially hurt by Shak but he has done more than that to my friends. A true no win situation for anyone.

I'd love to know how all the tough guys around here think they can get blood from a stone.... You can't scare a person into giving you something they don't have. He's very likely legit cash bust. So go swing a pipe at his head all you want. He'll likely roll into a ball and start crying.
Is legal action going to work any better? Probably not. But at least at the end of the day, I don't face a legal recourse myself.
Also, did it even cross your minds that it's entirely possible that one of the victims is an attorney? Or that possibly we know attorneys who are willing to work pro bono? People who have no idea what is going on, really should keep quiet.
you can't get any money from a dead person lol, money collection is a legit thing and professionals who do this kind of job operate with a very high success rate! but maybe you're right asking Shak nicely for your money back will work or having your lawyer type some letter up asking him nicely for your money back might work to lmao you can't get in trouble for sending someone to talk to Shak whats he's gonna do call the useless RCMP and tell them some guy came and knocked on his door to talk about money he stole?

Reason: spelling
I think most would agree that he's just a victim of befriending someone like he has, he shouldn't be copping it because he's the only one responding, and was closest with him.
I'm simply amazed that his exploits went undetected for so long, and allowed him to rack up such an extensive roster of victims and overall debt.
I'm not blaming any individual person for falling victim; I completely appreciate that it sometimes happens to smart, careful people. I'm nonetheless amazed at the scale of this operation, and how he duped so many, for so much, for so long.
So I was one of the people he scammed too. I would want to believe to this day that it is only slowpaying instead of scam. As AFAIK he was very helpful, nice guy who bought a lot of my shares and always sent the money except this one time and said he's going to give me cash as he won side event in Prague. But when I saw him in PCA Bahamas there were some signs that gave me impression he might have some problems. He was drinking while playing and gambling on casino games. He's a kid that needs some serious help and I'm willing to help him, but he won't respond to my messages anymore. I knew multiple people that had same or similar problems and some of them solved them and some of them are still miserable. If you are reading this, now is the time to choose different path.
