First of all, it's not going to get even close to 15k people let alone 30k. Outdoors in England? Whilst the WSOP is on? In an expensive city? How are they going to find power outlets for all those laptops with the right adaptors/sockets for various countries? How are they going to make the software and Wi-Fi download and run smoothly for everyone without problems? Signal-Jammer concerns? Glitches preventing rebuys? Rain and wind protection? Laptop protection? Synchronised bathroom breaks? Temperature/Comfort for playing for that many hours each day?
It's a $600+R tournament. I can't see anywhere near 15K people affording that. Satellites won't be popular either as after the buy-in, people won't be able to afford anymore rebuys. Anyone who can afford $600 plus rebuys and add-ons (let's say $1,800 minimum), is probably going to be the type of person who can afford to buy-in directly on Day 3 when 66% of the field (or something like that get paid) or they will be they type of person who will be in Vegas playing the WSOP as they can afford buy-ins like that. I just can't see it getting more than 2,000 people. If that. I think it's extremely unlikely it will go ahead. Also, players would have to fork out money for travel, accommodation and food which might all come to another 1k-2k anyway just to bust out in the first hour. They might as well take their $4K to Vegas and play 3-4 WSOP events.
What they should have done is tested this out on a much MUCH smaller scale. Test the concept, test the size of the interest, test the software, test the seating logistics and test the structure. It just sounds like an idea Curly, Larry and Mo would come up with.
I also think it's cheeky how the website shows that a couple of thousand of people have registered when really we've been told in this thread that it's just that they've "registered interest". I hope people think and ask around and read forums like these before they sign up. I hope anyone that HAS registered can get their money back easily.
I agree it will not take place, atleast not as they describe. Its only for the reason of trying to get 15,000 poker players willing to travel. You other reasons were discuss and discounted. They don t have toilet problems as the place holds 90,000 for football games and the poker is only trying to draw 30,000.
Rain and wind will not be a problem as the roof can close to cover the seats. The live on field event can place inside if the weather is bad.
$600 for a tournment is not large by any means.
The on again off again guarantee is going to cause problems. IMO, they need to set a min guarantee for the main event. This alone would help atract players so pick a achivable amount say 5-10 million.
The software could be a problem but if they are smart, then they need to have a online poker site to use their software. That way, players can download software in adavance and insure its works.
That set aside, I think they will end up reducing the event to a much more smaller scale.
I saw a 1 hour show on the Stadium and you would not beleive the place. The detail and planning is unbeleiveable. Some day it would be a treat to go there and see the place.
