Hard to imagine anything that has had a single larger impact on my life than this website. In its hay day this site was possibly the single greatest collection of young minds on the entire planet. So much success has filtered through these doors that it would be impossible to quantify.

I'll forever be grateful for the experiences allowed by become part of this community

Wishing you and the rest of the team all the best going forward.

And I'm hoping that the new owners don't make radical changes.

Rhett, if you go. Where should I go, what should I do ?

I can't think about it now, I'll go crazy if I do.

I'll think about it tomorrow.

The game's the only thing that matters ..... and, after all. Tomorrow is another day.

That sounds good, and while I like Japanese food, isn't Japan far away?

Best wishes,

Probably been here 15 years. This forum means a lot to many poker players around the world, including me.

But you should tell the new owners to be careful with any changes to the software/design.
Never change a proven winner, we've seen a lot of sites die slowly over the last few years.

This is a seismic announcement. Sufficiently so that I wrote a brief 2+2 memoir on my website.

However, the Cliff Notes are this:

Mason Malmuth and the people who worked with him created a place that has become the de facto town square of the poker community. They have provided support, leadership, and education to us for almost 25 years. As I wrote in my blog post, you don't want to think what poker looks like without 2+2.

I wish Mason, David, Mat, Chuck, and all the others nothing but health and contentment going forward. If you bump into any of them, anywhere, it would be appropriate to buy whatever they're drinking.

Regards,
Lee

One thing that comes to mind when I think of 2p2, and Mason in particular, is in sticking to his beliefs, having a fairly clear line of standards and not allowing the allure of piles of money sway those beliefs.

Especially in the 2010s, there were many dubiously legal/unethical ways to make a big buck, but Mason didn't seem swayed by the money. And it's not like Mason/2p2 shunned monetization at all, it's just that there was a fairly consistent set of standards applied to it. That has been very rare in this industry, particularly for major players. It's something I always respected and even admired.

Mat has done a very good job with how he handles moderators over the years as well. The very role of volunteer moderator in an online forum frequently attracts people that care too much about every little thing. Mat did a great job of allowing moderators to exercise their own judgement, sometimes obsessively, while not allowing a few rogue mods/ego trippers to dominate (and take away from) the community. That's not something you see across every online forum. There are a lot of "my way or the highway" e-bullies and whatnot that take away from productive discussion. Most of the "problems" on 2p2 historically stem from forums like Politics, and when that is your biggest reoccurring issue, that means you're doing a lot right.

Hi Lee:

Thanks for the positive words. Along with all the others here they're much appreciated.

Also, I don't think I ever said of the third edition of WLLH, "It is no longer the worst book about hold'em." Even the first edition received from me a rating of 4 out of 10 (and the second edition received a 7), and there were other hold 'em books available at the time of your first edition that I gave much lower ratings to.

Also, if you like gambling and the Civil War, and the Civil War was an incredible time for gambling, I'm now a co-author on a history book

https://www.amazon.com/History-World...s=books&sr=1-1

Send me a PM and I'll get a copy to you.

Best wishes,
Mason

Damn - end of an era. Well it was fun posting here for the 20ish years I’ve been here. I will say that it’s definitely time for a 21st century reboot, as most of the forums are defunct and devoid of posts / content. Good luck in retirement

Can I add to this that I remember from the beginning how 2+2 only published books they considered to be very good rather than it just being about pursuing sales/profits.

It's a rare ethos to maintain that translated very well into creating such an excellent website (warts and all).
