this game may have been the most fun thing ever but you are never going to make outsiders understand. It is a collectible playing card game for kids!!

I was an "insider". The author butchered the facts of the story, not to mention demonstrating repeatedly that he didn't understand the subject matter at hand.

I've no doubt that someone who can play it really well would have an advantage when it comes to poker though - keeping track of all the what-ifs and different scenarios must get pretty complicated.
Are you talking about Magic or Omaha Hi/Lo?

Oh, and I won quite a few Magic tournaments back in the day. To say it's an amazing game is understating it. It's about as close to a genius game design as you can get.

I thought they were all employed by Pinnies in Curacao, Zvi hardly owns Pinnacle. Can anyone shed any light on how come they employ so many ex-Magic pros? Ted Knutson has something to do with it right?

Well it looks like the most geeky and noncey game I have ever seen. Can anyone enlighten me as to why it is good and why they would ever consider playing it?

I haven't played Magic, but I've played a lot of card games which I'm told are a lot like it.

They can be fun, and there is a certain amount of skill involved with randomness as well. Although it can seem geeky due to the fantasy-themed stuff, that's just an abstraction to make it fun (similar to "ooh, all 5 cards are the same suit! i'll call it a flush!").

I've never played but I gather it's something to do with 'tapping that ass'? I've heard the phrase 'tapping for mana' but I have no idea what it means. I do, however, know what 'tapping that ass' means.

I dont know why, but this made me laugh hard, thanks.

oh & magic is about ninety nine times more deep & fun than poker, just no monies. Any idiot can play decent poker, while it takes high IQ & strategy & concentration to be a winning magic player.

I spend 2 years making fun of my friends who played magic (wtfits?) before I learned to play and got hooked for years myself.

To the MTG players, you really ought to not get so defensive about the game. Anybody with half a brain and any life experience knows that people from all walks of life enjoy and even get obsessed with games. I know practically nothing about MTG but I have played a bunch of chess, mostly at clubs in the south side of chicago, and the thug/gangster/drug dealer types and homeless vagabonds outnumbered the college kids and professional types at least two to one. That's the great thing about gaming communities, you really do have a chance to meet people from all walks of life and bond over a common interest. So, just ignore the haters.

In other news, if i'm at a bar/club this weekend, I do plan on field testing the line, "Girl I wanna tap that ass like it was some mana..." Will report back with results.

I don't think it's so much that magic and starcraft necessarily develop skills that will make you a better poker player...as much as they just foster an obsessive competitiveness and analytical thinking that will make you good at any other competitive strategy game.

You better hope she doesn't play MTG, because you don't tap mana, you tap a mana source like a land or a birds of paradise, and it produces mana

Tell her you'll tap her ass like it's a mana source

I just saved you a world of embarrassment

total failure. I've never played it but magic seems like a very interesting game. A little bit nerdy to say the least, but still very intersting
