I made a bet with a friend on who would win the WSOP Main Event.

He offered me the two chip leaders and the two short stacks and he took the middle five.

I have:

Dennis Phillips, 26,295,000
Ivan Demidov, 24,400,000
Craig Marquis, 10,210,000
Kelly Kim, 2,620,000

He has:

Scott Montgomery, 19,690,000
Peter Eastgate, 18,375,000
Ylon Schwartz, 12,525,000
Darus Suharto, 12,520,000
David "Chino" Rheem, 10,230,000

What do you think? Which side would you have taken?

I personally think that your friend got the better side of the deal. You basically have 3 players, Kelly is too big of a long shot. Big stacks come and go..

Man, just take Demidov and give him the other 8.

I would add the chip stacks of each side up and see which one is bigger and then compare it to the skill of the players on each side.

He has more chips than you and skill on each side washes each other out I would guess.

People are high on Eastgate... so based on chips and and No. of players, I think your buddy is getting the deal.

switch Rheem for Marquis and I think it's fair.

for real

But seriously, getting the chip leader, the best player (imo, Ivan) and the best of the shorter stacks (Craig) seems fine to me. I like your side just as much as the other except Eastgate is pretty sick.

Calculate ICM and and a little something for Demidov and you'll have it.

since this is winner take all i don't think icm is relevant (am i missing something)? OP's friend has nearly 20 million more chips combined than OP does, so it's hard to think that he doesn't have a pretty big advantage in this bet unless there's a very big skill difference.

i have no idea how good the players are supposed to be so i can't really comment there.

OP's friend has a better chance at winning. OP only has 3 legit competitors out of 9 considering kim is virtually out of it. OP's friend FTW IMO

I'd take OP's side because I think he has the better players. Though I think it's a very tough call still.

this is really hard to answer correctly without knowing where they will be seated relative to each other. still i think i'd take ur side of it because u have 3 of the 4 players i think will win it (the 4th one is chino).

Figured it was a coin flip, at worst

I get Phillips, who's my sentimental favorite.

I get the Russian, who I think has the best chance of winning.

I get 2+2er Craig Marquis with a "short" stack of over 10 million.

Lastly, for a wild card, I get to root for Kim to triple up or double-double up and get back in it.

Ouch for Friend 1.

Was this a blind draw? A draft? How did you decide the teams?
