i left the room for 90 minutes and told the cleaners to not come in and went downstairs in my bath robe. i didnt leave it there all day or something. but as you all say i understand this was still naive.

i just want to warn the community about hilton malta and to help remind other players to not be naive.

Dont kick a man whilst hes down, hes made a mistake and sharing his experience with you so that you dont follow suit.

Sorry about your experience, thanks for sharing the information.

It sucks to have your money stolen. But realistically suck it up, take some responsibility and learn a lesson. If one leaves money lying around they should expect that a cleaner making minimum wage is going to pick it up often. Use the safe.

Perhaps you were targeted because you were a poker player. But the way you were treated by hotel staff afterwards is standard. Bitching on twitter/corporate and threads like this is probably the best way to go about getting it resolved, but is the effort really worth it?

Fixed.

Realistically, your chances are slim anywhere you go. But, as was said above, it's a negative freeroll.

Sorry to hear about this incident, OP.

What HHonors status level are you?

+1 on referring your case to HHonors or Hilton Corporate if you dont have a HH account

Jesus... use the safe, use the front desk, use your pocket. Put it in your suitcase even. But leaving it out... wtf. Call it tuition and move on.

This is the best advice for anyone carrying much cash. Also carry a 'dummy roll', like a hundred or two hundred in $1s, $5s, $10s and $20s in your pocket so if you're robbed, you can instantly hand over enough money to make the thief believe it's all you got on you. If you think you're physically in danger, dropping the dummy roll at his feet then running away might be your best bet.

I always leave the do not disturb sign and in my experience the staff usually abide by it. Perhaps a staff member caught on to your big spending while at the hotel and decided to peek in your room.

Yea but it sounds like his security protocol for leaving a bundle of cash just sitting on a bedside table was the impenetrable, all-powerful, impervious to intrusion "Do Not Disturb" placard on the door. Lesson learned obv.

That do not disturb sign rarely means anything to cleaning ladies.

1. Guy gets robbed
2. 3284792 people write versions of "it was your own fault anyway, n00b" with varying levels of condescension

Sounds about right for NVG

Sucks man, sorry to hear about this. It doesn't matter how much you lose when something like this happens, just the feeling of having your personal space violated is incredibly uncomfortable.

Half way through the trip I went for a massage and left do not disturb on my door as I didn't need the room cleaned. I signed the massage on my room and came back and was surprised the room was cleaned. Later that night (2-3 hours) room service came and i looked for money to give a tip. The money next to my bed had now gone.

I was in the middle of a session so kept playing. It was late when I finished and no managers on site. The next day I went to the desk in the morning explained the situation and asked to speak to a manager. I was told the manager would call me within 30 minutes. I was playing EPT main event but said is wait 30 minutes to speak. 90 minutes later no phone call. I had to go.

I went back at the first break and spoke to somebody at reception. They told me they would look into it. I went back the next day and still no resolution but they told me they would fix it. I went back the next day and they showed me the locks who had been in when etc. There was 2 different cleaning people going into the room whilst I was having a massage. I explained again but no resolution. They kept telling me they would get back to me and their security manager was working on it.

Last day was Saturday. I went again and expressed the importance. The security manager came and said he wouldn't be able to fix this as the cleaners weren't in and he had been on holiday that week. This was probably the biggest week of he year so far and lots of money coming from the casino which was next door etc. Seems weird but ok.

I tweeted to epttravel that his wasn't acceptable. The security manager refused to do anything and had a really bad attitude. Epttravel came to the hotel immediately and arranged a meeting with a a manger who was too busy to see me previously.

He apologised to me and said he would have fixed it earlier but he only person who can see the lock codes was the security manager. His was his very first line to me and was bull****. I had been shown hear 2 days previously by somebody who wasn't senior. I told him I didn't want any more lies and wouldn't speak to people who open an exchange with lies. epttravel were very sympathetic and agreed that it had been terrible service. I was told this would be fixed and refunded by Monday.

They accused me initially of spending his money on the massage but I signed it on the room. They were saying I must have spent it on dinner but i had dinner in my room and signed for it.

I get a call 4 days later and the security manager tells me they spoke to the cleaners and they said hey didn't take the money and thus they would be not following up. But if I wanted help contacting the police then they would help with that.

They had told me throughout the week previously to leave it with them and then they would fix it. I leave the country then they call me saying to call the police if I want anything.

The amount stolen was less than €1000 but substantial money to anybody. If this was a normal customer and not a poker player I'm sure they would be going crazy.

I have stayed in hiltons all around the world. I've spent five figures in their hotels and restaurants and never received a problem. I played in over €50,000 worth of torunaments in their casino next door and was playing very high stakes cash games there. I have zero reason to lie and make this up and the money was 100% taken.

The hotel is amazing. I really, really loved it. I had great service from the reception notably Myrthe and Clarissa but the security manager and acting managers lied to me and treated me with no respect.

This is now unresolved and the only way I can get the money back is by going back to speak to the police in Malta which obviously Im not going to do.
FYP (sorry had to troll in nvg yano)

that sucks really especially at a hilton , thanks for letting people know of your story, sure does suck paying alot and getting ur money stolen at the same time, i mean ive had sessions playing poker like that :P but yeah you would expect better management but hey ho thats the way life is sometimes, i mean i know it sounds crazy and i know for a poker player with the amount of cash you would feel same with it in your room but i dont trust room service, well maybe not in the ibiza rocks but for sure i would trust a hilton.

i usually carry money with me at all times but i know for most poker players that isnt feasable , you can always get like a belt underneath your pants and just leave your money in that belt at all times cause tbh i dnt trust leaving my money anywhere be it in a hilton 5* or any foregin country with "their safes"

wat to do mannnn i really dont leave money lying around, i always keep it safely somewhere usually on me tbh but yeah i get this vibe anywhere i go that i dnt quite trust the staff and they all scammers

tough break but there is no where you can leave money unattended and unwatched and expect someone to be responsible for it.

hilton should in no way be blamed for this.

So what should the hotel be held responsible for?

If I leave a $3,000 suit hanging in the wardrobe and it disappears, are they responsible for that? If I leave a couple of hundred dollar pair of tennis shoes on the dresser, are they responsible for those?

I'm guessing that all the knowitalls ITT would suggest I carry my luggage around with me at all times to avoid this.

I wouldnt go through the hassle of calling Malta Police. Im very familiar with Malta, and the police is pretty much just like the crime, non-excistent. They wont do anything about it.

Who the hell would follow suit? How naive can you be, if someone is able to make the mistake that Patrick did with the level of intelligence he has, then im sure that alot more people would leave themselves open in similar scenarios also, thus why him posting his experience although it being a bad one would be a positive share for the community.

Dont be bitter just because he is more successful than your random ass is, get better at the game and stop hating imo.

Back to the hole you get you cretin.

You must understand what targets Americans, West Euros, and Japanese are in many parts of the world. The local hotel staff and the local authorities are often involved or turn a blind eye. I am sure the OP now gets it and will be more careful. And yes carrying the money is a bit safer , but certainly is not a perfect solution. And BTW this is NOT a new problem for tourists and travelers unfortunately!

same thing, is home depot responsible if something in your car is taken. or if at a restaurant and you go to the bathroom and your coat is stolen. all you can expect most times is to lose it, or you can file a claim on your homeowners insurance. or can write it off on your taxes as a casualty loss.
