At the lowest and highest stakes of live poker it's social, it's the middle stakes filled with most robotic regs and "war" mentality, dudes with backpacks and large water bottles and prepared salads and so on... without realizing that a huge part of their grind = paying most rake in the room literally bankrolling the livelihoods of casino staff

IMO either move down or up, make it a fun hobby and try to make money by having fun also, instead of being miserable 2/5 grinders and these days you can also include most 5/10 as well

Oh, they fully realize that. The point is to make enough off the fish to overcome the rake. Usually quite a reasonable expectation for a good player who has put in the work.

The last time I played degen type live cash game hours, 6 to 7 days per week for months on end, I was a winning player, but I calculated that I paid exactly the same in rake plus tips as my net after those costs, profit, so I was paying 50% "tax" on profits.

I therefore totally agree with the previous poster's statement: ".... without realizing that a huge part of their grind = paying most rake in the room literally bankrolling the livelihoods of casino staff."

My mistake was that I should have moved up one or two stakes, so from 1/2/5 to 2/5/10 or 5/10/25, by getting staked or part staked, but I didn't. And in fact when I did occasionally shot take at 2/5/10 the games were way better (less nitty) and way softer than at 1/2/5. P.S. I wasn't a miserable grinder, I actually loved playing. The part I didn't like was the unsociable hours.

I am about to say something that many ITT do not want to hear! (Only because there are some negatives / possible negatives concerning NV, some of which I myself have raised)

Nick Vertucci IMO is actually a brilliant interviewer. I thought he was very good anyway, buy having just watched his interview with Poker Bunny on The Nick Vertucci show, it really was
a masterclass in how to interview, especially as some difficult and sensitive topics were covered.

Wp Nick Vertucci.

^Vertucci is definitely a socially savvy and aware person. Makes for a good interviewer. And probably great to hang out with. Morally dubious business conduct aside.

He was good about asking questions that people actually want the answers to and pressing for details. Most interviews would never discuss how she uses her sexuality and go into details about whether she’s slept with any backers or whether her backers made any money off her and what kind of staking deal they had.

His bedside manner was super creepy though and his general attitude towards her was extremely patronizing. There was a ton of mansplaining where he would just take what she clearly said and rephrase it unnecessarily to which much of the interview was him doing that and bunny going “yeah”

I’m kinda curious to see the Robbi one now to see if it’s done in the same manner or if bunny was a one off. Would also be curious to see if he’s interviewed someone who isn’t on his show where he doesn’t hold any kind of power dynamic over and see how he treats them in that situation.

I can kinda see what you are saying, although I saw it a bit differently to you. I felt that he adapted his style to the situation.

The interviews are way better than when Veronica Brill is co-interviewing, IMO.

I don't care if she was naked, that 11% VPIP when she appeared on HCL was like Ice Age to me as far as finding her a turn-on....

Veronica does ask some very good questions when they are joint interviewing someone, but there is also quite a lot of interaction between her and NV which both eats up the clock and can sometimes cause the thread of the previous topic to be altered, disturbed or ended.

So she is a good interviewer but I would rather that the Rembrandt, the Tolstoy, the Da Vinci, if you will, of interviewing, was left to do the interviewing by himself.

Maybe not for all interviews and interviewees, but for some of them. Particularly for the bigger harder hitting interviews and topics.

$100k is like nothing to these guys. I guess neither had much conviction to place a real bet.

Vertucci was betting that Trump would get reinstated as President after Biden won then kept on betting more.

He bet 100k drawing dead... and Esfandari milked him for even more..

Nick should get Louis the floorman on his podcast so he can address the recent allegations.

In tournaments yes, in cash games no. I did used to wear them in cash games but I don't any more.

It is a massive advantage in tournaments wearing them, and not just for the obvious reason, there is another reason that to me is pretty obvious but I've never seen it written about
so I am not going to reveal it.

Players are also very complacent about hiding their tells in tournaments, and/or just arrogant/proud about not wearing sunglasses, but in my experience
~80% of players are giving off tells in tournaments. It varies a lot though regarding how long it takes to work the tell out, sometimes it might take
2 or 3 orbits and sometimes a few hours. I am pretty sure I would be giving off tells if I wasn't wearing sunglasses. The reliability of tells obviously also varies,
from about 60% certainty to 80% certainty, but even at these percentages it's valuable information. There are of course some generic tells that a lot of players give off.

(I take them off during any hands that I am not in.)

In cash games I'll do something with my hands to conceal my face a little bit in a big pot, or look down, something like that.

I haven't noticed players giving off anywhere near as many tells in cash games as in tournaments. I think this is because players are under less pressure
in cash because they can reload if needed and because there is no pressure of the blinds going up.
