Well, the craiglist stuff im not touching. Someone made a wild guess, i dont think its relevent whether he did advertise on craigslist or not, whatever.
Getting noticed is what poker sites want. That is why FTP has been sponsoring a lot of people who arent even close to the poker skills that Andrew has. That said, he is certainly heading in the right direction and im sure given the choice between him and half the random nobodies that FTP is signing (linky) i know who is going to get face time between Andrew and some rando like Biorac who seems to have been picked simply because he is from Russia or Poland or whatever (like most of the clearly lesser players they have signed).
Would you choose Negreanu over him, obv, but as far as young online players go i would pick him over a LOT of names because he wants to go out there and sell himself and by that token he will be selling the site he is tagged to.
Most of these so called "older pros" are broke degen losers. With g2cu you have someone who doesnt play the pit, who seems relatively open in front of a camera (he certainly hasnt been on the media training courses a lot of signed pros are sent on) and he is a truly quality player.
First of all, props again for choosing to have an adult discussion...not a whole lot of that here.
I agree with your reasoning about why he's trying to get noticed. And I like we both said...he got on PAD for his play, personality, etc. which makes sense for that kind of show.
We can also both agree that there's some online peeps with sponsor deals that have them for all the wrong reasons...I don't follow FT that much, but I can say there's a few PS pros that are on there more for their ability to help them promote the brand in foreign countries, then they are for their skills. I also laugh when I see some of the foreign players talking down to U.S. players about how they'll "kill the Americans" at the table, and then either bust out after 4 levels in a major event on U.S. soil or never even come here to play.
I just think there's something obv. about g2cu after reading this whole thread that really just tilts people in a variety of ways. It's like he's George Steinbrenner...except the world titles are missing. Loud and brash, trying to make his mark as the one of the greatest ever...but the manners make people dislike him.
There's still a considerable amount of people that think Tiger Woods is a no-talent weekend hack that has remote controlled golf balls and can't play for s--t. But he's only become the greatest golfer ever and just won a major with a completely shredded knee and double stress fracture in the same leg. But I guarantee you, those Tiger haters will stay he could never beat Nicklaus or Arnie in their prime...which is BS, since I'd take Tiger to win 7-8 out of every 10 HU matches between all 3 cause of his size, strength, knowledge, mental focus, and much more.
My point is this...maybe if Andrew toned down some of the things he's being insulted for without losing his the way he wants to be seen....there might be a overall opinion in the eyes of those that dislike him.
