I thought Robl came off fine in this particular video- nothing great, but fine. But even his supporters have to admit that the image he put out on the "ship it holla balla" website was classic douchebag. You know, the whole "I make so much more money than you" shtik. Maybe he's trying to get away from that somewhat- his new website seems more low-key. But he's going to have to accept the bad with the good if he wants to have this in-your-face "I'm so balla" persona.

Well, the craiglist stuff im not touching. Someone made a wild guess, i dont think its relevent whether he did advertise on craigslist or not, whatever.

Getting noticed is what poker sites want. That is why FTP has been sponsoring a lot of people who arent even close to the poker skills that Andrew has. That said, he is certainly heading in the right direction and im sure given the choice between him and half the random nobodies that FTP is signing (linky) i know who is going to get face time between Andrew and some rando like Biorac who seems to have been picked simply because he is from Russia or Poland or whatever (like most of the clearly lesser players they have signed).

Would you choose Negreanu over him, obv, but as far as young online players go i would pick him over a LOT of names because he wants to go out there and sell himself and by that token he will be selling the site he is tagged to.

Most of these so called "older pros" are broke degen losers. With g2cu you have someone who doesnt play the pit, who seems relatively open in front of a camera (he certainly hasnt been on the media training courses a lot of signed pros are sent on) and he is a truly quality player.
First of all, props again for choosing to have an adult discussion...not a whole lot of that here.

I agree with your reasoning about why he's trying to get noticed. And I like we both said...he got on PAD for his play, personality, etc. which makes sense for that kind of show.

We can also both agree that there's some online peeps with sponsor deals that have them for all the wrong reasons...I don't follow FT that much, but I can say there's a few PS pros that are on there more for their ability to help them promote the brand in foreign countries, then they are for their skills. I also laugh when I see some of the foreign players talking down to U.S. players about how they'll "kill the Americans" at the table, and then either bust out after 4 levels in a major event on U.S. soil or never even come here to play.

I just think there's something obv. about g2cu after reading this whole thread that really just tilts people in a variety of ways. It's like he's George Steinbrenner...except the world titles are missing. Loud and brash, trying to make his mark as the one of the greatest ever...but the manners make people dislike him.

There's still a considerable amount of people that think Tiger Woods is a no-talent weekend hack that has remote controlled golf balls and can't play for s--t. But he's only become the greatest golfer ever and just won a major with a completely shredded knee and double stress fracture in the same leg. But I guarantee you, those Tiger haters will stay he could never beat Nicklaus or Arnie in their prime...which is BS, since I'd take Tiger to win 7-8 out of every 10 HU matches between all 3 cause of his size, strength, knowledge, mental focus, and much more.

My point is this...maybe if Andrew toned down some of the things he's being insulted for without losing his the way he wants to be seen....there might be a overall opinion in the eyes of those that dislike him.

2nd on the douche chills! I like he said that you can't gamble in grocery stores.....you can in Vegas, wtf?!?!

Nice pad though. As far as the alcohol goes, he's 21....come on now! If it weren't there then I'd be concerned.

See, thats the thing he didnt do anything remotely "douchey" in the vid that he is getting called out for. The whole shipithollaballas stuff was kind of stupid and probably a misstep - i can understand that he was thought of as a bit of a douchebag over that, i agreed.

But it seems he has grown up and whilst he has no reason to be modest about how good he is at poker its clear he can be (as someone else pointed out the bit about poker books was really chill).

If anything the only dislike i had was how he emphasised his "love of action", but then he is having 5 figure prop bets and plays high stakes live and online so the guy isnt averse to a gamble.

What a lot of people dont realise is how he has achieved pretty huge goals he has had. I remember a thread in the STT forum where he talked about wanting to be more well known and to be someone on 2+2. At the time he probably had 150 posts or something tiny like that and it was well before the SIHB stuff. Less than a year later and he really was something on 2+2, though arguably for the wrong reasons.

Then there was the leak he was on Poker After Dark and it turns out somewhere buried in the ElD forum he said he wanted to be on TV a few months prior to this.

Its pretty clear he is someone who can set pretty sizable goals and will achieve them, how can you hate on someone like that.

Whats clear is he is no where near the level of douchebaggery that em2 is. Now that guy i can understand hating on.

Again...props for the adult level chat here

I never use the word "hate" unless I know the person and have met them. I'd say that "not being a fan" based on some of what I've and seen would be a better choice of words.

The vid....it just struck me weird in some of his talk about the paintings (way too much time on those), the booze (he knew very little of what it all was), the swords (no relevance), the bedroom...was an obnoxious brag instead of a cool brag.

To be honest...if putting forth a cool, high roller image on camera is the end game...I'd have picked 5 or 6 things to show off, plus interjecting a few things about his background...would've made for an impressive, cool, repsect earning piece of HSL.

Like Denzel said in "Training Day"

"Stick what you can prove G2CU!"

Well, he mentioned "High End" twice and "most expensive" once, so it seems to me he was still throwing around the "I make so much money than you" attitude.

It seems to me that he is describing the price and quality of whatever it is you're talking about. i haven't watched the video though because panorama towers episodes suck.

he says "most expensive" a whole one time and it comes across like that to you people? the show is for people to show off their house and possessions, do you expect him to say his stuff is low end and cheap?

That was one of the best HSL's I've seen yet, Robl seems like a very laid back dude who obviously doesn't take himself too seriously. I wish there were more people like him in poker.

I also liked Mr. Roble's comment about how he read as many poker books as he could and really studied the game. I thought the Ship it Holla crap was the gayest stuff i've ever seen but this video seemed ok. It has to be weird having a video camera in your face in your apt.

But the Raptor guy comes off as a massive douche, and that's after i force myself to ignore the Jurassic Park reference.

In every thread i read, you are always whining about something. I read your posts and picture the 5 year old kid in the store, throwing temper tantrums about his GI Joes.

before you say "i'm your huckleberry" or throw out any other Tombstone lines, I know you are a successful player and i don't give a damn. These other guys may hug your nuts like there's no tomorrow, but i just don't care if you are good or not.

You hit the nail on the head. Raptor is a total idiot who DOES whine about everything in life. By the way he even quoted the Tombstone line incorrectly to prove what a loser he is. Oh well. I guess he & the kid with he huge forehead can really relate to each other as they are both pretty much losers. They are really quite lucky to have found poker because they'd probably be quite unsuccesssful at anything else.

Word. Also, found this hilarious, "I don't know about all these people who are born with the ability to play poker well but I wasn't, I was just born with the ability to read." in reference to the tons of poker books he studied, LOL.

LOL, but then again how many of these HSL shows do you hear these people say "Oh I went to the store and bought the MOST expensive TV"

If you WATCHED the show I think you'll understand this more.

It came off like his attitude was the same as his shipitholla persona, and I showed this to contradict a previous posters (Vega33) assertion that he was changing his way from that persona.

No offense...I've already made my feelings known in this thread to Raptor as well.

But, he did get the Tombstone quote right...
