I live in Ireland. Try again.

When was the last time you ever heard Jordan (some American sportsman from the 1980s, not the model) mentioned on TV or in a newspaper?

He has ZERO place in popular culture in Europe. He does not exist for all the coverage he gets.

they all look alike

Judging by the crowd he drew when he visited Niketown in London 3 months ago, you are again, dead wrong. And judging by the list of comparable athletes you posted, you clearly don't comprehend his level of celebrity. Only Tyson would have anywhere close to the same level of fame.

Now please, stop. You're embarrassing yourself. Again.

Mike Tyson visiting Brixton I'm sure got a bigger crowd.

Diego Maradona, as someone's said, is globally FAR bigger than Jordan. Non-English speakers know who he is, for starters. Playing in World Cups gets you rather a lot more publicity than whatever it was this person Jordan (apparently not the model, but some '80s American local sportsman) played in.

Look, i'll say this again, you have no idea what, or even who, you're talking about. Please, let it rest. Your non english speakers comment is idiotic.

Michael Jordan is not as big a name as you Americans would think.

Guaranteed Beckham is bigger throughout the world than Jordan.

By the way, Daddy, you might find this illuminates your predicament:

And that's my point! I am very exposed to the media in the UK and always have been, reading both broadsheets and tabloids, watching TV etc. And Jordan just does not have any media presence. If he was so mega-famous, he would be mentioned, and through his high profile I would "know what I was talking about."

Beckham is also currently playing(well outside of injury) Jordan is almost a decade removed from his peak playing days

Do you realise he's retired, and has been for years?

although i have to say, michael jordan is pretty [censored] famous http://www.googlebattle.com/index.php?do...mp;submit=Go%21

Right, so why are you even mentioning him as someone so globally famous NOW?
This is in the wrong thread anyway, my apologies for carrying this over from OOT. The debate was about whose face was the most instantly recognisable today around the world (with Bush and Bin Laden being the obvious top two). Jordan obviously wouldn't be anywhere near the top.

Lol. Michael Jordan is superfamous in Europe. LeBron not so much I would say.

Stars in Baseball, Basketball and American Football are basically unknown in Europe.

And yes i live in Europe...

Tiger's close, but has only been famous for about 10 years, compared to being globally recogniseable for close to 25, like Jordan/Tyson. His fame also dips and rises with his quality of play, whereas the aforementioned were at the top of their professions pretty consistently.

Everybody please stop being a ******. I'm not even American, but Michael Jordan is the world's most famous sports figure for the last 20 years. You not recognising him says more about you than the americans.
Maybe ten years ago, now - no chance. I also don't recognise the guy in the photo, I'm still not sure whether it is actually Michael Jordan or not, I would've guessed Dennis Rodman, it's been a while since celebrity Big Brother but I think he looked similar. I have no idea who babe ruth is.

Sure Michael Jordan might have drawn a crowd when he visited London but most English people like me didn't even know he was in the country and couldn't care less anyway.

Jim, ordinarily I brush off the "you Americans are so stupid and self-absorbed" type stuff, but when it comes from such a pathetic loser as yourself, it rings especially hollow. Why dont you scam somebody out of a $10 (or pound, maybe even euro - who gives a [censored]), run it up to about 200 by playing so well, and then have "bankroll management issues" all the way to busto for the millioneth time. Then, when you are biking to that job you despise with just enough in your pocket for a coffee (and no more), you can laugh some more at us silly and stupid Americans for having the audacity to think that Michael Jordan is a big deal.
