if you make 60k a year it doesnt matter if its 5k or 50k rakeback, 60k profit is 60k profit

Not including poker coaching, sponsorships, etc. it’s very few that win big year in and year out. Very, very few. Way, way more people are scraping by… or worse.

What do you consider “win big” and “very, very few”? Numbers wise

A better question is how many players generated net worth over 1m$, 10m$ etc, lot of players make decent amount of money but then they go broke or spew most of it.

If I had a dollar for every time I saw someone obliterate the game for weeks/months only to dump it all in pits/sports I would make the biggest winner list without playing a single hand of poker.

I think most players who generated networths of 7 or 8 figures progressively and not just winning in 1 tourney usually don’t punt it all gambling in other stuff

Yep, it should be "from gambling". Because if you go clean out a game but walk straight to the craps table and blow 90% of it you aren't making money. Lots of these big players are heavily staked and also don't win as consistently as you might think. The margins are just thin.

There are a lot of people quietly flying under the radar who make good money from poker year in year out. They don't brag about ,post on social media etc.

There are a lot of people who pretend to make a lot who magically disappear never to be seen again. They either have huge egos and want to be viewed as a crusher or they're running some kind of scam which revolves around being perceived this way.

I've seen very few guys I think are good players and fly under the radar disappear from poker and I've seen tons of the posers vanish.

Before vlogs got big I had a running joke with one of my friends that in our local all the idiots posting chip stack pictures on Instagram are broke but if I ever get audited I'm gonna tell the IRS look how much those guys are winning why are you bothering me.

Over 500k per year - 200
Over 100k per year - 5000
Over 50k per year - 20000
Over 10k per year - 100000

Probably something like this. I play in UK in a relatively small part of the UK, i know 10+ people making 10k+year from 1 casino alone. I know 3/4 people making 50k+ from private games and 1 defo, maybe 2 made 100k+ last year.
the world is a huge place, extrapolate it out and the numbers are much bigger than you think for the 50k mark. 50k you can make as a mid stakes cash grinder, even the smaller stakes guys some of the best could be hitting that number.
100k is harder but still going to be some doing it.
500k almost impossible, very few but enough huge private games around where its possible.
1milly similar but obviously a lower number.

Who are these many thousands of players, and where do they play? I'm a pro, and I doubt I have ever met anyone who makes over 100k per year playing poker.

On a different question, for anyone, how many pro poker players would you say there are in the US? I wouldn't have thought it added up to many thousands.
