Can't really make much money being backed and frankly if you haven't built up some kind of roll on your own you probably won't get too far on someone else's dime. I understand it for high stakes live, but don't get it for people grinding 50-100 dollar mtts.

Do you have any idea how few people have weak (much less conclusive) data driven evidence of beating MTT's for any stake? (at least the bigger field ones)

For larger field tournaments (sunday majors), which practically everyone who grinds plays in, even a modest winner will frequently show a loss after 1k tournaments (or alternatively a modest loser will frequently be winning).


This is a big part of why backers really just shoot themselves in the foot and the deals strongly benefit players assuming the horse can leave poker and free themselves of the debt. But the alternative - that the horse can't leave, is even worse for the player than the former example is bad for the backer.
