I honestly think that if you keep records of your play you are automatically in the top 50%. Most of the guys in my room keep no records at all and don't seem to remember their hands from last week (seriously).

this is actually an interesting point to make imo, and was made apparent when libratus crushed the empire. libratus had a very different approach to lots of different spots than our top-tier human representatives WRT bet sizing and frequencies, and it showed that our idea/approximation of what constitutes "optimal" strategy in HUNL is actually pretty far from it. but we do ok vs each other, obv.

given how much more complex 6max poker is than HU, we're basically all just clicking buttons there too.

it's part of the fun imo

2) Stayed on this forum (Survivorship Bias).

didn't play in my 30s
now 40 rusty as hell and i know what i don't know
playing now feels a bit like the early stages of alzheimer's

Yeah that. I was inside top 1% on OPR when playing a lot in 2007-2010. (Low abi tho so not printing)

Now I’m break even-slight losing even maybe ...just playing a handful of ss pkos a week and some 25 plo, exclusively on my phone

Poker used to be so sexy, now it’s pretty bleh. Got to play a lot to be at your best, and that’s a single mans thing ...being able to dedicate so much time to it

I never really took to live poker, the atmosphere is so grim , and losing streaks at live cash is a much much worse feeling than online

This. If I realize I'm not top 10%-20% at the table it's time to move on. Nothing else matters. The second-worst player in the world could make a fortune heads up against someone given sufficient enough time and bankrolls. Any best in the world talk is so much dick-waving.
