I'm not sure if it's scarier that these are the people making decisions for the country or the fact that they were voted in in the first place.

The amendment banning foreign sites would be very bad as this bill is a huge longshot to become law this Congress and we'd A) lose Stars and Tilt as a funding source and B) increase the chances that Stars and Tilt leave the US market at some point.

Lets hope it dies.

I liked Frank's minister and bootlegger analogy.

CLIFFS

These are amendments that have been added to the bill as part of the mark-up process. This does not mean that these amendments are now law -- they've just been changes proposed to the bill before it goes for full vote...

This appears to be just posturing and pontificating right now. Once they get this through the subcommittee, doesn't it then go to the full house for amendments/modifications. The end product, if ever passed, will probably look quite different.

We as poker players are concerned but as the video shows, there does not seem to be a whole lot of interest in this in the chamber for any kind of turn out.

Did anyone see any national coverage on this during any of the morning news shows. I watch Foxnews and I didn't see anything.

It is interesting stuff watching how our government works, or it this case doesn't work to get legislation approved.

Can someone help me out here? I'm at work so I'm listening on my headphones while I'm doing other stuff, but I'm missing some of it.

So I know which amendments were passed and which weren't, but let's talk big picture. It seems like the general sway is to allow almost a sub-industry of online gambling to begin in the U.S. This industry would be taxed, regulated, and monitored within the U.S. I don't think they've indicated whether those outside the U.S. would be allowed on these sites. They seem to be averse to Stars and FTP and sites like that coming into the U.S., because they have no power to regulate them.

Final thought: if it comes down to it, and a new economy of online gambling / poker is started in the U.S., would that be so terrible? 40% of the SCOOP entrants were U.S. players. Obviously you're losing alot, but how many new players would play online in the U.S. because it was fair, easy, and regulated???

The 6th amendment has a roll call vote at noon. It was voted no by voice vote. HOWEVER, Bachus requested a roll call vote, which will take place when the Committee returns.

If GooglePoker was "safe", "regulated", "fun and easy", and "you can play for REAL MONEY!", I would play it in a heartbeat. The traffic would be ridiculous.....
