according to wsop site:

The 2023 Player of the Year race will only include all open bracelet events of the 2023 WSOP at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino and Horseshoe Las Vegas (May 30 – July 18) including the NV/NJ online bracelet events only.

Yikes.

"First place was a cool $12.1 Million. Mr. Weinman owes federal and state income tax and self-employment tax on his winnings. I estimate he will pay $4,831,195 to the IRS and $690,777 to the Georgia Department of Revenue (45.64% lost to taxes)."

There could have been a deal in place, but I don’t think there absolutely had to be one due to all of complexities including these tax issues. For example, Walton has no state tax

There would have to had been a lot of number crunching that night and maybe drafting a bunch of documents. People say they “chopped” implying they just split the money but chip leader probably wouldn’t have taken that. Then add in tax complexities.

I have been out of touch with poker, online and live, for a while now.

Just thought I'd share an opinion that having the final table of the Main back to during the series is a vast improvement over the November Nine.

On the flip side, I think the venue could be improved? You watch older final tables in theatres, or with bigger crowds and so on, whereas the one the other day only had a rail that looked about three-deep.

Ivey’s Desert Summer 2023:

Summary:
21 WSOP Events Played
23 (+) Bullets Fired
3 Cashes
Total Spent on Buy-Ins: $858k (or more)
Total Cashes: $362k

Results: -$496k (or more)

I think this tally is close to accurate. He likely rebought once or twice in the $25k PLO, but I didn’t include this as I didn’t see it explicitly mentioned anywhere on Poker News updates.

He also played and busted in the WPT One Drop events ($111k & $10k buy-ins), but these aren’t included in the above stats.

Unlike last year, I don’t think he participated in any of the online bracelet events.

Events Played:

*indicates event in which Ivey cashed

#08 $25k NL Heads Up
#16 $25k NL 8-Handed
#22 $10k Limit Hold ‘Em
#23 $50k NL 8-Handed
#29 $100k NL High Roller (2 entries)
#40 $250k NL Super High Roller
#43 $50k PPC*
#50 $10k PLO
#54 $10k HORSE
#57 $25k PLO (re-entries??)
#63 $10k Stud Hi-Lo
#65 $5k NL 6-Max*
#69 $10k NL 2-7
#71 $50k PLO High Roller
#72 $10k Super Turbo*
#75 $10k PLO8
#76 $10k NL Main Event
#80 $25k HORSE
#84 $50k NL
#91 $3k HORSE
#93 $10k Short Deck (2 entries)

I went and watched for 10 minutes while on break from another tourney when they were down to 10 and I walked right in and was one off the rail. It was a little tight in there, but if it was held in a theater I'm not sure if they would have the demand for it.

They would pay people to fill the theater. It’s what they used to do for WPT

But I’d prefer to go back to smaller room, smaller crowd, and have focus back onto the players

Any truth to rumors that GG Poker is going to purchase WSOP brand from CET? If it is true any chance the venue would be moved to some other location in Vegas?

Never thought I'd say I miss the Rio, but the smoke you had to walk through on Horseshoe side was brutal. Also, the fact that it was split between two venues sorta sucks. Plus the hallways were rough walking through during some breaks. Also, parking was a nightmare, mostly due to the F1 construction.

Not sure what would be better venue, but also heard CET is building convention space on Koval, which would be a better option if possible.

WPT at Wynn in December 2022 good, although still had to wait for seating for a couple events.

Running these massive events can't be easy. But to keep it growing and evolving problems must be identified and remedied instead of just living off reputation, which it seems the WSOP does in a part.

Many have tried, few have succeeded.

Caesar's has dumped a LOT of money into the WSOP, and by that I mean way beyond the summer portion. The room in the Chicago area, GVC, got complete re-do based on the two circuit events that happen there now. They've been pushing that "WSOP" logo everywhere you look. I'd be real suprised if they sold it off so soon. I mean, everything is for sale if the price is right, but it seems Caesars had a longer and bigger plan than just the summer portion when they bought the rights
