don't tax rates heavily affect this equation?

do American players list their home state along with their MU on these staking sites?

Daniel Weinman, georgia, main event winner was taxed at a 46.6% tax rate
steven jones, arizona, 40%, 2nd place
adam walton, washington, 3rd place, 39%

so you need higher ROI if you reside in a higher tax state

If you file as a pro (i.e., use schedule C), then you only pay taxes on your net profit for the year. And you can deduct all reasonable expenses. Taxes are going to reduce your profitability, but if you're a winning player, you will still win, just not as much, regardless of your tax bracket.

Tax rates would certainly effect the net ROI, though I would think for the sake of simplicity we just disregard the tax rate when looking at raw ROI for a tourney on its own
