Hey you structure experts, the structures of the $1500 limit games (and mixed games) are better this year, right?

7500 instead of 4500 chips. Got rid of the first level, and the blinds stay the same for two levels for the first 3 set of blinds.

Much better this year.

Compare limit holdem level 6 blinds:

Last year - 150/300
This year - 100/200

This year has a strange level 7 though, seeing as the 25 chips are raced off after level 4..

200/300???

Looks like they dumped the $1500/$2500 Eight Game Mix event.

yes, doesn't take much of an expert to see it is much better. Plus this year you are starting with more chips.

Are you sure you comparing apples to apples though?

200/300 are the blinds. But the stakes are 300/600.

not sure about limit but a bigger starting stack doesn't improve the structure of a tournament it actually makes it more of a crapshoot because there are less early bustouts.

Its way better especially with 250-500 added. Remember they dropped 25-25

Yeah, I know there is more to it than that but that is why I'm asking the experts. The stack was increased by a ratio of 7500/4500 but the stakes doubled for the first level. But it stays constant for two levels. You are playing slightly more meaningful pots earlier on.

Another change that we may well see this year as a result of the structure changes is that it could be less attractive for people to turn up late.
I doubt I'll find myself 4 handed in a 9 handed tournament when the cards hit the felt.

Presumably it'll work like the Double-Bubble tournies at the PCA. Once 50% of the field is eliminated, the rest are guaranteed their buyin back. Then a second bubble happens when ~8% of the field is left.

Just a guess, though...

Based on skill rating formula from Arnold Synder it is better this year.

Skill rating of $1500 limit event is now 62.67. In 2009 it was 39.59. (higher is better).

The $1,000 NL events are now 30.51 vs 28.77 last year.
(used to be only 14.8 when starting stacks were 1500 chips 10 years ago)
The $1500 NL events are 41.66
The Monster stack is 70.46.
The Extended Play is 68.68 (90 min levels)
The $1500 PL holdem is 48.07
The colossus is only 18.52 as well as the Lucky 777 event.
The main event remains 176.17.

With the ME now paying 1000 places, when are they likely to hit the money?

Day 3, I'd guess around dinner.

Can someone who knows more about the history of poker / preferences of players explain to me why there are not more big bet mixes?

I think a $5k NLH/PLO/NLSD/PLO8/5CD mix would be ****ing amazing, and it seems like such a logical addition to tournament poker series like the WSOP, but nobody even plays a PLO/PLO8 or NLH/PLO mix anymore.

I don't get it, but there must be a reason.

I see they switched the five card draw to no limit, but the structure sheet still suggests only Holdem and deuce are NL. What's with the weird antes on the deuce in the early going? Do they even have chips that small?

Yes, $5 chips. Last year they had more relevance because I believe $15 were the starting antes for the stud. They should just change it to $25 antes for 2-7.

I'm pretty sure that is a slight error on the sheet. I think it is probably NL this year. Just not sure if it will have the 2-7 or hold'em antes. But those are pretty meaningless anyways.

Just as a side note, the PL games did not have an ante last year.

Live mix cash games rarely play w big-bet games, hence the lack of mix MTT w big-bet focus. There used to be HA played for nosebleeds online and it's still played in live cash, but the closest to your proposed mix is the Dealers' Choice, which incorporates most of those games.

Not that the poker and WSOP isn't ready or bold enough, respectively, to put one of these on. Maybe next year if enough people advocate . . .
