After years of abusive Data-colletcion Hendenmob is now forced, due to the GDPR, to delete your Accounts if you want to.

For Deletion just write an email to support@thehendonmob.com

Funnily HM response is that, the People abuse their own rights (GDPR) given to damage "the industry" which helped them with their careers in the first place.

They offer you to change your Account into a "Nickname" too.

cheers

Helpful to know, less helpful to get the domain wrong.

Assuming the rest of the email address is correct it'll be support@thehendonmob.com.

I think it's a shame - for me, if you are entering a poker tournament you should have no right to anonymity. GDPR is being misused IMO.

More info on General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) laws -- larger fines for offenders and an increase in consumer complaints.

Why is their collection of data abusive? They're just compiling publicly available information.

what's a personal reason to want your hendon mob data deleted?

hide data from tax man? from a backer? from your ex-husband?

other than those whats a valid reason?

So do major league baseball players have the right to have their stats removed from ESPN.com if they have a bad season? I don't understand the specifics of this law. This isn't personal data, it is all public record. And doesn't everyone sign a waiver when they enter a poker tournament allowing the casinos to publicize winners?

Good afternoon,

First post. Would just like to make a few points on this subject.

The Hendon Mob is run by a small team of poker fans whose aim it is to serve the poker community by operating the best poker database and poker information resource available on the internet. By publishing the results and pay-outs of major tournaments Hendon Mob is no more guilty of “abusive Data-collection” than the APT or the PGA. The information published on THM has already been released by a Casino or Tour in line with their own T&Cs, which a player agrees to by registering the tournament.

Its deeply sad to see certain players who have enjoyed a successful career in poker celebrate a situation where a small business operating in the poker world has its operations affected by sweeping legislative changes, purely because it confers some benefit to themselves.

I suspect these same players are more than happy to use the site for their own financial advantage, by looking up and gaining information about their opponents in major tournaments.

Yes, GPDR has caused some changes to the way we operate, but we will continue to work hard to serve the community, to improve the product we offer to poker fans, players and media and to continue to grow our traffic year on year. We would like to thank those who support Hendon Mob by visiting the site, following us on Social Media and interacting with us via any of our sites or initiatives.

Some people have a warped expectation of privacy. It's common for players to request that their names be excluded from chip counts, or that their photograph not be taken, even though they've signed waivers and walked into tournament rooms with signs posted saying "by entering this area you consent to being filmed." What do they expect to happen if they reach a televised final table?

There's even a business man who frequently appears on high stakes games on PokerGo, who insists on being referred to only as "G.I." It's not hard to figure out who he really is, though. He even played in the $300k Super High Roller Bowl under this pseudonym.

I covered a tournament once where Nelly was in attendance and I was instructed to crop him out of all photographs. Ridiculous.

It's the same as Sharkscope. Not everyone wants to their results to a whole world.

Work you all do is awesome and much appreciated.

Having just experience the new GPDR regs myself they are nasty and way too onerous. For example, on a recent contract with a multi-national where previous contract was ~10 pages.. New GPDR stuff added another 15 pages of mostly gobbledegook, so all are feeling your pain.

Cash players don't make themselves walking billboards for one.

Also tournament winners are a matter of record.

Any EU-casino T&Cs having a rule that you have to accept your information being published are void as that would clearly violate the GDPR.

Curious, do you accept removal request worldwide or only from EU citizens / tourneys played in EU-casino's? For an American cashing in a tournament at an US casino nothing changed.

Does it really? So will EPT and other broadcasted events in Europe have to start blurring faces and redacting names?

That sounds like an oppressive law.

I defined it too broad indeed. Any live broadcast won't be effected. Having your name on a form sent out after a random tournament will. The difference is one is journalism / a media broadcast to which most GDPR regulations don't apply while the other is to create a database.

I don't quite follow the distinction. What category does the WSOP Player of the Year fall under? Should WSOPE events stop counting? These are based on published results of everyone that cashed, which the WSOP currently releases, but you say is a violation for Hendon Mob to report.

How about journalists using their eyeballs to report on players attending events and which place they finished? Would a database comprised of these observations be illegal to publish?

Is the MyStack app in violation? Players agree to release their information this way, but you said that it's void even if they consent.

thanks my bad.

General:
Everyone should have the option to opt-out within this system.
Some people wanted to have their accounts deleted for years now and HM refused to do so, because all the "information" is written somewhere else.

Not everyone wants to have all their cashes written on 1 Homepage to see for everyone. If people want to have it, it is fine, if people dont want it, they should have the option to say no.

LOL wait, so it's the aggregation of public info that's bad? So it's fine for WPT to publish results of their tournaments, but a no-no if I write a blog summarizing those results?

It isn't an exact science, but yes: journalism is fine but databases with years of history of amateur poker players aren't.

Why not? If these things are going to be codified into law and restrict speech, they ought to be precise.

FWIW the effect of GDPR is nowhere near as broad as suggested in this thread. It's far more nuanced. It certainly doesn't give an automatic entitlement to anonymity, as there are various grounds on which people can process data regardless of consent. One of these is archiving information in the public interest, so generally the fears expressed above are groundless. It would just be speculation as to why THM has taken this course, but they wouldn't be alone (e.g. various American websites that have just closed all access to European visitors because they can't be bothered to work out whether they comply with the law).
