Your goal is to make money from players. Stars', and any site's goal, is to make money from players. Money that a winning player takes from a depositor is money that the site doesn't get. Every change is designed either to limit the amount pros can win from recs, or increase the rake they're taking.

Your goals are in direct conflict. Yeah, they are destroying online poker, but why wouldn't they?

I'm not sure yet if this is a good or bad decision. I used to play 6-8 tables and now I'm playing four.

BUT:
I noticed that the number of fish at the tables has at least doubled, which is definitely great news for regular players. I'm not there to play other regs, I'm playing to win from the fish. So this might have been a good decision after all.

This change is neat and all, but I'm most excited about the Pokerstars algorithm that prevents winning players from getting JJ+. Hopefully, they can release that by Q4!

By the way, we don't need the original founder, now we know how it's done! Unfortunatelly, law and taxes make it harder and harder everyday for the sites to work well as they originally did

I don't know why the 4-table cap is such a big deal. Now you can play 4 tables at Stars and 20 somewhere else!

When I watch Twitch I see people with 2 tables, win more than people with 4 tables open. And they playing the same game.(GGNetwork Zoom variant)

I'm a 4 tabling reg, so I can still play what I usually play, though it does raise some questions ...

1. wtf is their logic behind this?

2. I don't know whether it is good or bad for me as a 4 tabler.

I'm like a low volume, high winrate kind of player, so I guess it can be good that the 12 tabling players etc will have to now play in my arena, but at the same time it might be worse because now the are not heavily distracted by playing so many games at once?

tbh I'm leaning towards the latter (also I did want to up to 6 tables at some stage )

What other sites have decent traffic for EU players? I'm seriously thinking about moving.

But it would seem logical that if their goal is reduce the number of winning players (deposits are zero sum game between site and winning players), then , the fewer hands twinners regs see the better, for the site.

Old Stars was good. They sold to these donkeys and ****ed the whole market.

The people who believe it would be a good idea for PokerStars to go back to their old business model are one of the main reasons why there is still money in online poker.

If you're a winning 4-tabler, then this news is very good for you, since the reg:fish ratio will be even better. (You won't have the same mass-tablers on every table, and you're more likely to be seated with casual players).

Put it this way: In a room with 24 tables running, you'd have Mr24Tables on every table, reducing your EV wherever you sit. Now the most tables he can sit on is 4, so there's a decent chance you avoid him completely.

FWIW, I think this is mostly only an issue at 2NL/5NL/10NL. If you play much higher than that, the games will probably just die.

agreed except for games dying higher , this will force / allow players who 24tbl to play high stakes maybe if anything fill in the gaps between mid a high stakes , and also these 24 tablers ( not sure anyone is still doing this anyway) are not winning players. so all these RB nits are forced to learn how to win for real or start bartender school.

Good idea. Make the games totally unbeatable by eliminating all games that are too complex to currently be solved by solvers.

The best thing they could do is ban all of the significant winners from eastern europe/russia. It's a pretty harsh thing to say as not all of them are cheats, but a much higher percentage of them are dodgy accounts compared to other parts of the world. It is very obvious that there are a lot of players using real time assistance from these countries. Security on stars is really good but a lot of people have clearly figured out a way to go undetected. That and clamp down on the large stables who share data etc.

This has little to do with poker and more to do about the specific egoic value trait you put on pokerstars. Pokerstars stopped caring about poker when they made their priority getting rake. As soon as that happened i went from a long term company to a short/mid term company because that's where financial investors decided the risk proposition of AMAYA was.

I don’t think “Eastern European” or “Russian” is a race.

FWIW, without Black Friday and forced segregation of various Western European countries, I think there’s a good chance that the player pool on PokerStars would be segregated by some metric like GDP/capita today. Having a group of net withdrawers at NL2 isn’t really in the best interest of the poker site nor of players from high GDP/capita countries who would prefer a player pool of other non-serious players.

There is tons of evidence that botting and real time ai is more prevalent in these parts of the world. Look at the thread in internet poker about 'corporation botfarm'. Not too long ago there was a large eastern european stable accused of using illegal software (smartspin I think?). That plus as the above poster mentions, its not good to have heaps of low stakes grinders from poorer countries ruining the experience of recs.

Of course there are people behaving unethically from all parts of the world, but that doesn't change facts.
