I'm happy for Daniel, but that heads-up match was hard to watch. The blinds were so high that I'm pretty sure there was a point where there were no pre-flop raises for about 10 straight hands. Then again, I am not a big fan of tournament poker in general; it's just hard for me to get into it when the average stack is 25 BB or less. That's just my preference though.

I don't think the blinds were that high if they played heads up for 3 hours.

These hands at the start will be funny to watch. This is the perfect storm set up for Sam to absolutely abuse them on the bubble.

Doug P gets all the credit here for firing up DNegs into winning a HU match. Zero chance credit actually goes to DNegs to 'sticking to the plan' (and running good in a few spots). He was actually behind in a couple of all-ins and won, which hasn't been happening. GL

Yeah, I understand that in tournaments the blinds have to go up at a decent rate or else the players would be there forever.

At the same time, I think both players (if I'm remembering right) had KTo on the button with 40K/80K blinds and an 80K BB ante, and both elected to flat. If you can't even raise KTo on the button in that spot, then the game (to me) is just going to be boring to watch.

I can't even say it was limit poker; I really felt as an amateur observing pros obviously, that both players played the entire time like they were afraid of being raised so they just never bet. Far too many flat calls and check-checks for my liking.

But again, that's my personal preference. I personally enjoy deep stack cash games more.

Sergi Reixach was the next to go on a bad beat in fourth place for $192,500. Negreanu jammed with eights on a seven-high flop and was called by Reixach with cowboys. An eight spiked the turn to give Negreanu a set and he eliminated Reixach after a blank came on the river.

Shortly after, Alex Foxen got it in good with ace-jack against Negreanu's queen-seven suited. But a seven on the board paired up Negreanu and Foxen was ousted in third place for $280,000.

Daniel busted in fourth for the mincash with AA AIPF. As for the Q7 hand against Foxen, he was in the BB and getting the right price against the shortest stack at the table.

Interesting. Tournament poker is so sick. If DNegs hadn't cashed in the Big One for One Drop he would have lost $1,000,000 instead of profiting $7,288,001, and his overall profit would only be ~$3,000,000 over all those years. In other words, most of his profit over those 8 years came from just one cash.

And then minus all the airfare, hotels, Car rentals/Ubers, Meals, etc.

Phil won the match and deservedly so, he took over midway through the match. I think nick started to come a little predictable. Nick needed to start playing bigger pots vs Phil instead of playing small ball poker, which is what Phil wanted.

Having to listen to Nick Wright for the whole match would be torture.
