Hellmuth vs. Negreanu "High Stakes Duel 2" Confirmed - Poker News

The "High Stakes Duel 2" between Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu has been tentatively confirmed by No Gamble, No Future co-host Brent Hanks. [5:00-5:35]

"I promise you, it is coming very soon." -Brent Hanks (Feb 18, 2021)

The number of hands, venue/site, and stakes are to be determined.

Also, Daniel says Phil's critique of his performance versus Doug is just a "word salad of nonsense" that Hellmuth is tossing from his own "orifice..." [1:50-2:35]

... and that Phil Hellmuth claims to have invented poker GTO. [3:50-4:40]

I'm nonplussed about this unless it is for a significant sample. If it's going to be the same as the heads up duels on pokergo, it's just whoever gets luckiest will win. I want to see this done like it was with Doug and Negs. Negs would crush Phil in that one, so odds are it won't happen.

"High Stakes Duel" is a SnG format ... PokerCentral isn't interested in some lengthy format. they need content to fill the void after HSP season is finished.

the only interesting fact is, that they might start with $100K for the initial buy-in (Hellmuth vs Antonious was $50K, $100K & $200K) ... so maybe (just maybe) they play for $800K at the end.

These two are ridiculous human beings for different reasons but I think there is a weird sort of likeability to Phil underneath the hubris. Whenever he kicks back and relaxes he seems like a good guy, like he would be fun to have a drink with, and in an odd way there also seems to be a kind of generosity to his spirit that you don’t really see in DN IMO.

I’ll be rooting for Phil for sure for these reasons but on the face of it, it looks like he’s outmatched in every way, unless they play some lame HU donkament crapshoot format or something

I am betting on phil for this if its HUSNG. Daniel is prob going to overbet too much and then get mad when it doesnt work that well under 50bbs.

Yeah such a small sample is pretty useless if they wanted to figure out who is better. They are both delusional, but Daniel is prob better over a large sample. However such a challenge will never happen.

No, I love Phil and hate DN but I think Phil should sit this one out. He has nothing to prove and DN has the edge in this format.

Hellmuth really is a great marketer. Gets himself back on the show without having to play Esfandiari for 400k and after trashing Negreanu's game plays him in a highly luck driven SNG rather rather than any reasonable number of hands in a cash game where he'd be be punting an enormous amount of money by playing.
