NO NO NO, so if we listen to your definition of great poker player (yeah being pretty fair and accurate on your skill/your opponents' skill evaluation is a skill) a guy winning 3bb/100 in 2NL is a better player than a guy losing -1bb/100 in 10kNL online versus the beastest beasts LOL

The losing (almost breakeven so with rake - which is low at HS in bb/100 - someone who wouldn't lose/lose really a small amount at HS) player is a million times more knowledgeable/a better player than a small winner at micros.

Hellmuth is not a great poker player.

With this definition of great player a guy like Bilzerian who has never proved anything in terms of poker skill would be considered a genius (assumptions since i don't know much he wins at poker, i don't know his skill neither).
But yeah being a great player to you = being famous or born super rich to be able to play vs re tarded (pokerwise) whales ...
Anyone reading 2+2 regularly and therefore knowing poker strategy quite a bit could beat uninformed rich whales "having fun" ...

Hellmuth just does what any player who wants to win should do, bum hunt (aka game select).

I've been trying to game select by getting into some local cash games at nursing homes. Those old folks have money to burn and generally can't see or hear too well, so I take their money and tell them how great I am at poker.

I can usually talk my way into the side games at the special olympics.

They are so happy all the time, even when they lose so its all good.

This is why the games are harder today. Not because all the fish left but because all the good players who were playing above their skill level decided they no longer wanted to show everyone how awesome they were.

If anything, the best game selector ever has been Tom Dwan. Even with rumors of him being broke, there's no one that can top him in table selection, and this goes back to his online days when he won millions off Guy.
