Washington State Senator Marguerite Prentice, who sponsored the Internet Gambling Bill that made WA online poker players potential felons may lose her seat to redistricting, according to an article in the Seattle Times on Saturday. Prentice, a Democrat, will have to compete with other Democrats to remain in the legislature.

The article does not specifically mention poker.

Couldn't have happened to a nice lady :-)

Maybe she can get a job pumping gas.

She's not out by any means, but this move would make it harder for to be re-elected. Good news either way.

For those who don't know, this a reference to the mega-tilting statement she made to ESPN about poker players having to move out of WA state due to the regulations she helped implement:

“I just think some of these arguments are utter nonsense. You mean you’re going to move so you can play poker? Gee, lots of luck in your life… I have nothing against card playing. That’s fine. If you want to do that, but I’m sure not going to worry about someone… you know. Let them go pump gas.”

Sigh...I was hoping that "out" meant something different, more...permanent, so to speak.

Still good news.

I'm not against card playing. I just support a bill that makes it a felony.

I find it ironic that she might lose her job because some poker players might have moved from her district and the census numbers changed.

As I suggested in the PL thread, you can email Prentice and one person knows you're unhappy or you can comment on the story and many people know.

Or you can register and "like" the two comments that mention her pumping gas.

Good Call Doc--

I did just as you stated and posted a comment and likes to the Times Article...I suggest Washingtonians do the same...it is a step in the right direction...

(my comment)

Senator Prentice made people like me, fairly bland family types, (wife, kids, schoolteacher, etc.) into potential FELONS because of her support for an Internet Poker bill that made Internet Poker a FELONY.

The gas pumping comments above reflect her arrogant response to an Internet Poker player's question about what job he might seek now that Prentice made his chosen profession illegal.

Prentice overlooks how many Internet poker players, through hard work and diligent study, have made comfortable livings at poker; and many people like me have carved out a nice recreational diversion (and a little extra mad-money) from poker, or that probably thousands of people get a little extra joy from playing on the Internet for a $10 or $100 deposit and winning or losing or just enjoying a good recreational diversion in the comfort of their home, vs. a smokey tribal casino (that backed and bankrolled Prentice and her support of this ill-conceived and over-reaching law.)

Prentice must read the comments because Doc's got a thumbs down.

US politics is so ******ed.

Yes I'm happy she may end up losing her office - not necessarily exclusively because of poker but because her comments related to poker emphasized how disgusting and worthless a human she really is. But even given that, losing her office in this way is just so ridiculous. The US so desperately needs straight forward proportional representation. Online poker likely wouldn't even be illegal if that were the case and our congressional system not so direly broken.

YIPPIE!!!!

Now she'll know what it feels like to have her job ripped away from her. That worthless troll. I hope she has to move now (even though she might not want to) to be able to keep earning an income for her family.

I was one of the poker players forced to move because of the law. I moved from WA state to ID even though I owned a home, and was engaged (with a fiance, now wife, that had a job in the city we were living in)

F U CORRUPT LIBERAL PILES OF ****!!!

Andrew Garber: 360-236-8266 or agarber@seattletimes.com

That's the info of the guy who wrote the article (it was posted at the end of the article, so I doubt that he minds it's out there mods). I wanted to call him and let him know about this thread + facebook + the reaction of the poker playing community. Some how try to generate a 2nd bad publicity article for her.

I fear though that if I call, I'll go off the rail and explode. Being forced to move because of the law was a worse experience for me then black friday. I was forced to leave a home that I loved, friends that I was close to, and a neighborhood that I grew so attached to that I called my next door neighbors by "grandparents" (there was no actual family relation, they were just old and awesome and helped me out all the time).

She brought so many tears to my mothers eyes...sleepless nights to myself, and stress to my wife, that I can't think of a better person for this to happen to.

I hope she's doesn't win in 2014 if that's when she's forced to run next time. I know I'm going to be donating money to her competitor in 2014. I hope others do the same. Maybe we can all donate, announce our donation, and keep a tally letting her know how much poker players donated against her.

I'm in for the max I can donate by law (off to google to find the dollar amount). My wife is also.

Pretty nice post. Why not use that as a basis for a letter to the article's writer? Less chance of any explosion reaching him that way.

Be aware that there are restrictions as to when you can donate as well as (presumably) monetary restrictions. This goes for residents and non-residents alike.
