Hi Everyone:

I just got word that Hal Lubarsky, who was a good friend of mine, has passed away. I believe he was 61 and had numerous health issues the past few years. Many of us who knew him will miss him greatly.

RIP Hal. He wasn’t dealt the best hand in life, but made the best of it with the cards he had, quite inspirational really. I’m glad ESPN did some feature segments on him years ago to forever memorialize him.

Hal was told a few months ago he needed a kidney transplant and would only have a year to live without it. But the other day, when he was sent to the hospital, I was told that he was suffering from a blood infection. I assume this was related to the bad kidneys.

Very sorry to hear that. I never got to meet Hal in person, but I had numerous phone calls with him in my 2+2 work, and he was always very appreciative of my work with him. In my experience, he was a very nice guy. He certainly wasn't having the easiest time of things the last few years between his health and the loss of some friends and family members, but he kept trucking through just as he did with his blindness.

RIP, Hal. My condolences to Mason and all of his other friends and family.

I’m so sorry.

He seems fairly famous in the poker community. You guys should have done some kind of charity tournament or any kind of fundraiser for him. With the amount of money in the community it would have been easy to raise money for a kidney. Wouldn’t it?

I made it a point to say hello to him at the Orleans when he was there and that I thought he was great for what he did. I couldn't do it. RIP I hope he found a nice card room up there.

Given that $100,000 was apparently needed, and was a long ways from being raised in spite of the GoFundMe being promoted here and elsewhere, not so easy it would seem. Regardless, I don't know that this is an especially constructive conversation to be having at this point in time.

Hal was one of my good buddies from playing at South Point. He was also my plug to a Pokerbros club during the pandemic. We got kicked out several times from winning too much lol, good times. No matter what his health issues were, he was always a lively person at the tables and the more you got to know him, the more he would talk to you and tell you stories from his earlier days. RIP the vegas legend Hal
