Guy Laliberte says he got ripped off on FTP Guy Laliberte says he got ripped off on FTP

Guy Laliberte was talking to a local canadian newspaper today and talked about his poker abilities and the loss on FTP.

English Translation:

Quote:
«I got ripped off»

Guy Laliberté is a poker player. «In live game : ride on the top of my game. I do not have any complex playing live, my scores are good», he says.

Online, he does not wager anymore since Black Friday April 2011.

«I should of remembered that I was a dinosaur regarding this (internet)»

«The story of Full Tilt is clear: I got ripped off, totally, by people I knew personally, that used unfillted bank, they didn't pay any money.

«When there is all the time «All ins», when its not your own money, and they print money to play against you, and that they are two or three (on you)...; I was an idiot.»

Discrete on the amount, he admits he lost a lot of money. «I got ripped off like a school kid.».

«Je me suis fait arnaquer»

Guy Laliberté est un joueur de poker. «En live game : ride on the top of my game.

I always thought he was cool with losing it and had some 'lols' considering just how rich he is but i suppose losing millions is going to suck however it happens.

Canadians got their FTP money back pretty quick didn't they?

Is he saying the RNG is rigged or he was colluded against?

He was playing with his real money. His opponents were playing with fake money and an unlimited supply of it. Seems like a legit gripe where they had an unfair edge over him.

His argument seems to be that some of the people he was playing against were using "fake" money because they could just withdraw more from the "company" if they lost. Maybe I'm way off, but he might be saying that the advantage players had over him was strengthened by the fact that some players against him didn't really have anything to lose.

From my understanding, he says that his opponents were ganging on him on the tables (obv, he was the fish...) and that they were *freerolling* since FTP was giving money to his opponents to play against Guy Laliberte

I thought they story was everyone at the table with him had pieces of each other, so they didn't really suffer any real loss.

If that's what he's saying, he's an idiot. No matter how much FTP dished out, it doesn't come close to $2.5 billion. And if Guy was a winning player in the game it shouldn't matter where his opponents' money comes from since he should be winning it: $2.5 billion should be able to smooth over any variance at 200/400.

Valid point. I wouldn't mind playing in such a game as long as they weren't colluding.

Even being really conservative and saying his poker bankroll is .1% of his net worth, $25 million, that's still 625 buyins at 200/400.

This is inaccurate: Canadians got every penny.

As I explained above, this shouldn't matter.

Vague, could be construed as a collusion accusation.

Extreme claim, which doesn't jive with only being upset team FTP members were being paid more than he expected.

Pretty sure that back then, Galfond, Durrrr, and many others were not given any money by FTP to play against him.

The FTP pros at the time, however, are another story. He's got a legit beef with them, and potentially the non-FTP pros who shared bankrolls vs. him.

To be realistic, however, he would have lost vs. these guys anyway. Sounds like something to blame his losses on other than himself.

What does "unfillted" mean in any language?

My guess is "unified" or "shared"; it makes sense given the context.

Yeah. Was thinking either "unified" or "unlimited," which seems more in context with the "print money" phrase.

Like, the translation is pretty broken... maybe a native French speaker can help?

I'm not sure if he's talking about

a) people teaming up on him; or

b) if he's suggesting the presence of funny money in the Full Tilt system against which he competed with his real money. Maybe not necessarily a freeroll, but perhaps funds that were used to play against him that weren't backed up by actual dollars when the playing occurred? Hence "they print money to play against you." If translated correctly, that's a pretty unusual thing to say and seems to suggest more than simply teaming up; or

c) if maybe he's just alluding to those players who also made money from Full Tilt the company; or

d) something else.

If we are not talking heads up matches but fill ring tables where multiple people shove in a hand(all in) with him being in that pot and everyone sharing equity.

He got ripped off and that is morally wrong to be doing that to someone.

He is definitely not a sucker for having that happen to him and I can see why he would be mad, even if the money doesn't matter to him.

That would be collusion. Is there any evidence this happened?

Shocking. Collusion on interweb. How in the world would that work?
Could peeps talk to each other about hands on the phone whilst wearing black and playing all at the same time. Wouldnt have imagined it.

I think it's considered some type of collusion but not the collusion that is typically thought about when you mention the word.

No card sharing is needed with sharing equity and I'm not sure what the article is referring to but I assume it was something like that but would like a native french speaker to comment on what actually happened.

French here.

He's not talking about collusion in the traditional sense. His legitimate problem was with FTP pros playing him online/live with their "shared/unlimited" Bankrolls from FTP, which gave them an obscene advantage.
