Story is swiss cheese.
So sad how easily everyone believes the first thing they read and immediately decide something from an anonymous internet post is mostly true.

If anything remaining anonymous if the claims are true puts the person in more danger as only Wesley would know who he is. The story does not add up. Who knows if he was scammed or not, but I read his story as an attempt to scam everyone into believing something that either did not happen or happened much differently than the way it is being presented.
Stu maybe this will help you

A crypto trader scamming people with a rug pull is probably the most common scam of 2023.

It's more surprising that this was fake.

So basically if Ben wasn't actually behind this to start with (he probably wasn't but there's a small chance the entire thing was him) he got scammed bc he hates Wesley so much he was willing to pay to get dirt on him to get him deported?

I mean his entire "I felt bad for the little guy getting scammed" routine is transparently bullshit.

It boggles my mind that these rich people who get con, can't do some simple ass logical verification. Here's a SIMPLE first step. Get the con man to show themselves. First big warning sign is that scammers like to hide who they are. You seriously send tens of thousands to someone who you never met in person?

When Rampage got conned by that Dustin dude, how hard was it to do a little background search? Hell just going to his instagram was enough for me to be on full alert.

When you say behind, you mean he gave the scammer money to put up the website, not that he was scamming WITH the Russell guy.

Have to say watching enough of HCL with Ben. You can tell he's quite a volatile, emotional guy (Bunny incident). So I could see him getting so caught up in hating Wes and impulsively funding the scammer.

Little guy getting scammed. Everyone wants to help little guy. Especially if your heart gets tugged. Rob Mercer scam got both Vertucci and Ben, I believe. Society programs you to try and help, especially if you are wealthy. After the fact, people who donate look like rubes. Sometimes the intention is honorable but the results bite you. Afterwards, people shore up their skepticism and become more careful in the future.

The difference is with Rob it was clearly people genuinely felt bad for a guy dying of cancer.

With this it's Ben got scammed bc he was blinded by his hatred of Wes to the point he would get him deported. And while he admits he hated Wes he acts like this was some benevolent thing (the way the Mercer thing genuinely was) to help the little guy when it wasn't.

For sure he was blinded by hate. The fact that he could help the little guy (Russell) was what made him want to send money. I'm hoping that this scam was before Mercer was exposed. It would look really bad for Ben if he was coming off a con, and then so easily falling for another one with the prior con still fresh in his mind.

But what I'm saying is that in his mind (Ben), he really wanted to believe that he was helping the little guy. Being wrong in the end doesn't mean he didn't truly believe he was helping. Just that he's an emotional bleeding heart that's willing to open his wallet, if you can come up with a good enough sob story for him to support.

Nah he wanted to wreck weseleys life if he could. If the "scammer" was anyone else he wouldn't have gotten involved.

Unfortunately, "anyone else" was Rob Mercer and who knows how many other people he has tried to "help".

Another example is Airball, Ben took his side against Berkey. Kinda went overboard doing so. I was bit shocked how strongly he came out against Berkey. But now seeing all these other cases, it much easier to see how his volatile, emotional side can get easily worked up.

Yea honestly he sounded pathetic with the Berkey stuff. I can get not hating Berkey as a person and trashing Berkey for things he's said or done that he doesn't like. That's fine
But instead of doing that he made fun of him for growing up dirt poor which is just pathetic- made even more pathetic when he's doing it with a silver spoon rich kid like Airball.

I'm not sure what world growing up dirt poor through no fault of your own is something an grown man should be making fun of. It's pretty bad even for a high school kid.

Additionally making something of yourself from nothing (not just talking Berkey here) is way more impressive than some born rich jackass acting like he's successful when he's accomplished absolutely nothing.

Ben slamming Berkey's low income upbringing? I might have missed that. From the podcast, Ben himself came to the US dirt poor. Worked himself up from nothing so would be strange for him to belittle Berkey's background.

When the dustup first started with Berkey and Airball, I took Airball side. I thought Berkey might have been too overbearing with his attacks on Vertucci. But he handled himself really well the entire time during the match. It was Airball who came off as a drunken, loudmouthed idiot.

I found it unbelievable that someone's first crypto trade would be to buy some random shitcoin OTC for $250k, instead of dabbling with BTC or alts on a CEX or even trying Uniswap.

This is different because "He even stated that we were very fortunate to have met him at the time we did."

If you can't trust when a person named "Dr. Hash" tells you you've lucked into the profitable end of a pump & dump crypto scam, then you're just too cynical for this world.

It is more alluring to a lot of people to potentially hit a 100x or more on a random illiquid shitcoin that might moon like PEPE or SHIB did than it is to buy ole reliable BTC and just hold it. Not the most logical line of thinking but that's what I see from a lot of people. Trying to get rich quick instead of get rich slowly but surely.
