Is Grinder winning the k players championship the greatest poker accomplishment ever? Is Grinder winning the k players championship the greatest poker accomplishment ever?

Someone asked me this and all I could come up with was Johnny Chan winning back to back main, and Newhouse making 9th 2 years in a row with 7k plus fields. Both arent as impressive as triple win in the $50k vs elite fields.

Does anything top what Grinder did?

so much bias towards live poker "accomplishments"

For what it's worth, Chan didn't just go back-to-back, but 1st-1st-2nd in three straight Main Events. And sure, the fields were all of 20 tables back then, but they also were more dense with pros.

Whatever Bonomo has just done is pretty damn impressive.

I also go back to Greg Merson with his $10K six-max bracelet followed by the Main Event. And Lisandro winning three bracelets in three stud events in a month was pretty cool.

I'm sure there is something obvious that I'm totally missing, too. Not really paying it much mind.

A player with -ROI in a small field tournament and winning it 3x is not the biggest accomplishment of all time.

If you took a player of average skill (relative to the PPC field), the probability of him winning the event 3 times over a period of 11 years is 1 in 6,437.

For a legendary player like Phil Hellmuth, fairly charging 1.8 markup, the probability of doing this would be 1 in 1,201.

If you think Mizrachi is a god with a 300% ROI against the field, the probability of doing this is 1 in 131.

He was blessed with a disgusting amount of luck no matter how you slice it, it's just a question of how much.

All of these accomplishment are very sick for sure and luck plays a big role there.

Greg Merson's one have something different tho, he plays nlhe mtts for 13 "straight days"(with day off in between day1-day2-day3 of the ME).
As for the luck, in the ME he had a huge loss and was down to less than a bb on day 5 or so to spin it back to win it.

Dan Harrington deserves a mention.

He won the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event in 1995 for $1,000,000.

He has made three other Main Event final tables: placing sixth in 1987 for $43,750, third (out of 839 players) in 2003 for $650,000, and fourth (out of 2,576 players) in 2004 for $1,500,000. Because of the increased number of participants, his run of back-to-back Main Event final tables in 2003-04 has been called the greatest accomplishment in World Series history.

Greatest poker accomplishment is getting to the top of the pecking order at 200/400 cash on stars not luckboxing a few MTTs. Don't get me wrong im a Grinder fan love how he plays with zero ****s given. But its not comparable to the work and achievement of crushing the toughest cash games in the world.

He lost a ~3million chip pot with TPTK NFD vs top set jacks all in on the flop and had about ~50k left or about 3bbs I think. Craziest comeback ever. Yeah Merson winning back to back bracelets including the Main and I think he had to win both to knock Phil Hellmuth off for player of the year which obviously makes it 10x better.

So yeah, not the greatest. Plus there's this:
I'm not that much into tournaments these days but you're sort of missing the point with that graph.
First, they play all the games, that's why it used to be called the H.O.R.S.E, it's a 50k buy in where only the best players enter,
That's why the call it the players championship.
Grinder beat out 87 of the best tournament players in the world.
In reality, this is, in my opinion, now the true wsop champ tournament.

In these first three, to go through a minefield of over 21,000 runners to finish with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd is unheard of.
