Before his main event win I used to play with him at Foxwoods in a 100-200 or 150-300 limit HOE games and he was always one of the better players in the game. Game was very soft in OE parts but he always played well, never saw him tilt. I won't say he's top 10 in the world but a solid thinking player capable of playing many games at a winning level.

Always super nice to the fans, willing to sign autos. Seems like a decent honest guy who plays well in a game surrounded by scumbags/degans who play well. I would rather root for him than most poker tourney pros. I have never heard him in some giant scam. I thought when he won main event he had 49% sold to 2+2ers/backers and paid off every dime ASAP.

BTW I had no piece of him in wsop Main Event win, wish I did.

well, i know americans very impudent nation and they call the champs that won in usa games the best in the world every time.
We have one problem. If wsop took place in China it would be very probable we'll see 5-6 chinese or asian players at final table every year.
PS MEs with high buy-ins gather more players than wsop me (even without usa). Why dont we call winners of them the world champs?
Just ignore that I already answered this yesterday and use it as an excuse to bash the USA. It doesn't make you look bad at all.

One of my favorite posts:

I had won a seat into the $5K World Poker Finals main event at Foxwoods, non-transferable, and it was a significant fraction of my bankroll. I went online and posted that I was selling pieces early one evening, then drove into Foxwoods to play that night's super-satellite. I won a second seat, and went home intending to cancel my offer to sell action in the first seat. But by that time, I had already received several emails, and honored all of the requested action. I then finished 3rd out of 78 for $48K, and shipped about 1/3 (?) of my win to the backers.

Her story went something like this. She tells husband she mailed me a check for $200 or $500 or whatever it was, in exchange for her piece at par. He says "So you're telling me that some guy you've never met posted online that if you send him money he's going to play poker with it, and if he wins, he'll give you a share of the profit? And so you sent him the money?" And he then ragged on her about it for the next few weeks until I finished 3rd and mailed her share to her. Apparently she then rubbed the money on her titties and told her husband to **** off for how he had been treating her.

Though to be honest, his side of the story is pretty compelling until she got paid her money. I had no idea who this woman was prior to getting her email and a few days later her check for her piece.

Greg is a terrific poker player and perhaps an even nicer person. I still love his line that "nice people bluff too."

+1 to this also. Can't believe that he didn't just give his pocket money up considering that he had recently had such a big score.

Had nothing to do with that. They wanted to get into his hotel room. Where his wife and daughter were asleep in the middle of the night. Things don't tend to work out well when armed robbers do a home invasion away from the cameras and with witnesses.

Not only, as has been well stated above, is Greg Raymer an all-around stand up guy, a top-notch poker player, and a great ambassador for the game of poker, Greg is also a passionate advocate for the reform of poker laws.

Greg Raymer is also on the Board of Directors for the Poker Players Alliance. As a fellow Board member, I have had the great pleasure of meeting and working with Greg on several occasions and can only echo the positive comments of others.

I post mostly to note that I have also worked with Greg in a legal capacity. Greg Raymer is the PPA's go to guy when we need an expert poker player for court testimony. Having personally witnessed Greg testify in court, I can also say he can be an incredible teacher; poker players who got to watch him testify got incredible insight into how to play serious poker, many told me they felt like they should have paid for the experience!

Congratulations to Greg on this unprecedented 4th HPT win! I am sure many more awards will come his way, and I just wanted to make sure "expert expert witness" was somewhere among them.

Never heard that part of the story. Makes sense. Butterfly effect, three more lives saved?

One of the robbers, Dean Cassim, was approached in 2007, while in detention for the Raymer robbery, about taking care of a three witness in the trials of body builder Craig Titus and Kelly Ryan for the murder of Melissa James.
