definitely vanity, I mean so many people in the fitness world are on juice and it's certainly not to be healthy

USADA has completely changed things in the UFC. A lot of fighters of the past were "dirty." In Pride, where Fedor primarily fought, it was widely known that many fighters were using something. For McGregor to fight in the UFC he gets tested thoroughly. That's not to say that some fighters are not now using methods to evade detection, but it's certainly a much cleaner sport at the top level than it ever has been.

the pokershares line on the bet is really good at 4.20, do they allow international users now?

Re: Gossip: Staples brothers new prop bet

Just listened to the Poker in the Ears podcast and Jaime said his DEXA scan was 35%. I don't know if losing 25% body fat in a year is going to be possible. I hope they do it but that is a ton of bf to lose in a year.

Ya, him not lifting weights during this last years diet probably took a huge toll on his LBM (meaning he has like, zero muscle). Him going to sub 10 means complete emaciation at this point. Holocaust look. And I don't say that lightly, I mean straight up concentration camp survivor. I don't see it.

Re: Gossip: Staples brothers new prop bet

This imo is one of the closer to accurate looking scales @10%. Assuming his abs are a bit goofy genetics wise, which is another variable. Some guys get dexa coming back at 8% and you're like wtf, but we can't see how much subcutaneous fat they hold. Also you have to look at the whole picture, for example when my front side is at 10-11% my back still shows like 15%, especially lower back.

From what I'm reading online dexa basically will just ignore skin/extra?

well he can't really lift more than 5x a week, ideally probably 4x, his biggest challenge is going to be in the kitchen and having good sleep schedule, the training is a walk in the park

The problem is that he didn't train (much/regularly) for the prior year/bet, thus having lost a ton of LBM so there isn't much lbm (muscle) to be preserved even if he trains now. Sure, some recomp can be done, but not that much in the timeframe allowed considering he will have to keep at a decent caloric deficit.

He (Jaime) simply has very little muscle mass to uphold a sub-10% bodyfat physique. He'll be a skeleton at that bodyfat. That's the problem.

Valid point - muscle mass is very useful for losing bodyfat percentage.

My strat would be to stick to the cardio and get big into the running while taking supplements/TUEs that help retain muscle mass. Think he responded well to the cardio so may as well keep that up.

Also looks like Jamie has a decent amount of visceral fat which is a lot more difficult to cut.

Yeah good point - you're right - recomp is not the most efficient way to do this within the timeframe. And once he goes underweight he'll be much more susceptible to injury and be unable to recover as quickly.

The man was literally eating pizza on stream in past few days. Glad to see he is really throwing his all into it at least. Just once again feel bad for the little stapler bro, I am sure he has the determination and discipline to get under 10% but this is going to be all about Jaimes effort ( or lack of ) this time around. Best of luck to them both because I believe they are going to really need it this time around. Also pretty sure $50k ($25K each) is probably a good % of Jaimes net worth and almost certainly 25%+ min. of the little Staplers.

Btw this is a great article on how difficult the challenge is. Journalist does a ton of cardio, is real proud of the weight he's lossed, does a DEXA and finds out he lost a ton of muscle mass.

Article behind a paywall if anyone could find a free version that'd be cool

well you're probably right, I'm guessing he would have to start off the first 3 months in a slight calorie surplus to build some muscle then keep training and cut calories? not really sure tbh

also how does one gain visceral fat versus just normal body fat?

Re: Gossip: Staples brothers new prop bet

On that front ^, the good news is that one category of people that can gain muscle on a deficit is very fat+very under-trained, which Jamie fits. Of course this doesn't last that long, by definition. A footnote, strength=/muscle, i.e you can get stronger without gaining muscle mass.

Just want to clarify, I wish him the best in this. I think it's so amazing how far he's come. I hope he comes and logs in H&F on here. But I don't like his odds and it's not the best way to get to the healthiest or most aesthetic possible in 1 year. Which I feel like that should kinda be the point.

Imo a better bet would be something like 15% bf combined with some sort of strength or endurance metric.

Xeno,

There is no way to change where the body decides to store or burn fat from.
