I agree it's absurd Pokernews aren't covering it but given Tony G and Pokerstars are involved parties I can see why they wouldn't. Other sites though no idea.
Eh
Pokernews has been pretty face up Stars Propaganda for a long time since they bought them, no surprised there

Pokerstars' request to dismiss the suit (due to inappropriate venue) has been put over to November.

Pokerstars is incorporated in Isle of Mann and prohibited from doing business in California. Vayo claims he was in Canada when he played the tournament. Why has he filed suit in California, which doesn't seem to have anything to do with this, other than being where he allegedly was playing from in violation of the terms of service?

Off the top of my head, it has to do with the fact that Pokerstars does business in California (Pokerstars.net play money, which collects money via sale of play money chips). Why legally (if) that is sufficient grounds for jurisdiction is a question for a lawyer or legal philosopher.

I'm hopeful that it is (a), but (b) is also possible. I don't know.
So, it seems that PokerStars knew something that we did not:

Pretty compelling vindication of PokerStars here, imo.

So as well as apparently using a VPN to appear like he was in Canada when he was in the US, he even got someone to forge his bank statements to give the impression he was using ATMs in Ottawa... but the numbers on the statements didn't add up? He's probably gonna end up having to pay damages in the hundreds of thousands.

Yeah, Vayo’s story never made sense. Big bad Stars seizes his roll for nothing, on a whim.

Never made sense. I think they had the goods on his VPN all along as well.

Poker is shady, but keeping secrets like “who can help you play on Stars” has to be difficult.

It should have been obvious Vayo was lying from start considering its awfully easy to prove when you cross the border of a country. He could have done it in 30 minutes. No surprise most of the muppets around here still defended him.

i mean i sympathize with people who VPN and i understand the motivations, but it's a calculated risk that has a potential downside and trying to pass off some apparently lolworthy bank forgeries when you're dead to rights is just so arrogant and childish (stars won't take action against accounts unless they're extremely confident in their ability to prove their claims in court- litigation is expensive)

***also this guy has like all the means in the world to go play abroad, what he did is just dumb

feel like ivey getting ****ed for edge sorting is jurisprudence here. The house will allow you to cheat until you win big.

Forging bank documents seems pretty dumb. Can that result in criminal charges being brought against him?

Lol
All this time I thought he played from Canada, but has played on VPN in other times, stars knew it and chose to pull the trigger after the win

Not that he's just an idiot forging documents in a public lawsuit vs a company that will obviously stick an army of lawyers on it when it becomes a high profile case

REEL’s motion should be granted, and it should be awarded $279,347.40 (plus whatever it spends related to this motion), the reasonable amount of its attorneys’ fees; as well as $8,641.08, the nontaxable costs REEL has incurred to date (REEL seeks taxable costs in a separate application)
Just to show Stars literally threw hundreds of thousands on lawyers (it's "amount" of fees so they probably pay them even more to keep em on retainer etc.)

And you're such a moron you don't even check that the forged receipts from some dude you hired at least resemble the balances of the forged accounts you're giving them

Would Stars not be expected to enforce the ToS as soon as they knew?

Because like this it seems that they only enforce them when you win.
