They probably took the 280k from the amount they were donating to charity.

MUST READ for those interested in current geolocation technology available within the regulated statewide U.S. iGaming market. Very informative writeup that outlines how VPN users are thwarted in markets such as New Jersey.

This is not directly relevant to the case here, but if you're a consumer who's interested in learning more about the limitations of IP geo-location techniques, this article is excellent:

It is primarily informative, but it is also part comedy and part tragedy.

A well-intentioned article, I'm sure, but the author should have sought help from someone who understands VPN.

8-minute testimony video from March 12th, 2019 before the Michigan House Regulatory Reform Committee, featuring former PPA Exec. Director John Pappas on behalf of GeoComply.

(2:20) Watch how GeoComply uses real-time data (New Jersey market) to allow/deny access to players on regulated sites within U.S. statewide borders.
(5:50) John Pappas testifies why governments should restrict the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) due to the compliance risk they pose.

"We cannot risk allowing somebody who is running a VPN — even if they’re in Michigan — to be able to play if it’s legal here because they could potentially be spoofing their locations." -John Pappas, GeoComply

i'm not sticking up for stars, they suck, but i dont see how this is related in any way shape or form to gordon vayo getting caught VPN'ing.
If you're unable or unwilling to spend any time understanding this case you probably shouldn't fabricate statements that are totally untrue.

There was nothing dubious going on at all, all transfers were to/from a regular player account, not an affiliate account and all transfers were done with the full knowledge and blessing of FTP. Further, there was no settlement reached in the case, to the contrary, Stars were found to be guilty of breach of contract and a judgment was made against them for the full amount claimed of $285k plus interest.

If your statements had of been true they wouldn't have been a fabrication. Yours were untrue and a total fabrication.

As I said above, I care. If you don't care why even bother to respond?

There is a link to the full judgment of the NSW Supreme Court earlier in this thread but the case turned out well.

The court found that it was implied from the terms of the agreement with the US Government that when Rational FT Enterprises Ltd took over the operation of FTP, it took over the obligation to pay players the money in their accounts. This obligation continued through the online contract entered into when FTP came back on-line in November 2012 and when Rational later removed the $285k from my player account, on the grounds that it was an affiliate payment in the hands of PokerNews, they were found to be in breach of contract. Consequently judgment was made against them for the $285k plus almost another $100k in interest, all of which they promptly paid.

So to answer your question, the lawsuit went well and justice was served.

Not to mention that the Paradise Papers subsequently revealed that PokerNews was secretly owned by the PokerStars company.
